51 Rickard's Pale Ale Canada American Pale Ale 2.5

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

I have never been a fan of this beer, it's also not one you see around all that often. I have it every once in a while, but there is nothing outstanding about it.

52 Alley Kat Full Moon Pale Ale Canada American Pale Ale 4.0

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

This is an orange coloured beer which has a very hoppy aroma. The head was white, thin, and stayed with th beer all the way down. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied, carbonation is mild, and there is a bitterness on the tongue. The flavour is hoppy, malty, and a grapefruit twist.

53 Okanagan Spring Pale Ale Canada American Pale Ale 2.5

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

This is now available in Ontario in 6 packs, and I'm afraid it all needs to go back from whence it came. This pale ale is a weak golden orange in colour, with a thin head. Lots of skunk in the aroma to go along with weak hops. Flavour is milky sweet....and that's not good in beer.

54 Mill Street Tankhouse Pale Canada American Pale Ale 2.8

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

This is a red beer with a frothy tan coloured head. The aroma is not very strong, but there are hints of spice and some perfumey hops. The flavour is rather bland as well. Not as bitter as I would have liked.

55 Toppling Goliath pseudoSue Pale Ale United States American Pale Ale 4.0

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9

My name is Sue……how do you do? Oh wait, this isn’t Sue, this is Fake Sue! Fortunately, this beer is anything but fake. The beer is nothing special to look at, being a cloudy golden pour topped by a foamy white cap. It’s in the aroma and the flavour that this beer separates from the pack with a huge citrus and pine punch and just enough grain to keep it balanced.

56 Alexander Keith's Hop Series: Hallertau Canada American Pale Ale 3.0

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

The second of the three new single hop pale ales from Nova Scotia. This one pours slightly darker than the Cascade, but with a smaller head. The aroma is very lagerish with very earthy hop note. Flavour is quite grassy, but clean. The best of the three in my opinion.

57 Alexander Keith's Hop Series: Celeia Canada American Pale Ale 2.7

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

The Alkexander Keith hop series has been a massive faailure among craft beer drinkers. While I am sure it is a well-intentioned attempt to win back clients by making a better quality beer, there are others who are looking at it as a cowardly feeble attempt to play with craft guys. Unfortunately craft beer drinkers think the quality falls far short of expectations and Keith's drinkers think this is a waste of money that could be spent on their IPA. This is an orange coloured beer with a white head. Aroma is certainly hoppy, mixed with typical cereal malt off smells. Flavour is a tad malty for a beer showing off a hop.

58 Alexander Keith's Hop Series: Saphir Canada American Pale Ale 2.4

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4

The most recent beer I've tried from the not so wonderful Alexander Keith Hop series of beers. A red-tinged gold in appearance, head is white, lacing is non-existent. Aroma is herbal and spicy with cereal malts. Flavour is metallic with weak herbal hoppy notes.

59 Old Tomorrow Canadian Pale Ale Canada American Pale Ale 3.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

The shellac or whatever it is on the can is a turn-off, almost made me put it back on the shelf. The beer is clear, amber in colour, with a decent sized head, which is whitish in colour. Heavy caramel atoma, some biscuity notes, and some earthy hops. The taste is very malty, grains aplenty with hints of sweet caramel and bitter citrus. Not something I would try again.

60 Alexander Keith's Hop Series: Cascade Canada American Pale Ale 2.6

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

The first of three single hop ales brewed by Alexander Keith's. A hazed golden yellow with a white head. Aroma definitely has more of a hop note than their regular IPA. Flavour is still pretty bland with a lot of adjunct still detectable.

61 Alexander Keith's Hop Series: Galaxy Canada American Pale Ale 2.8

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

The third in the Alexander Keith's single hop pale ale series. I had high hopes for this one, but was extremely disappointed. The darkest beer yet with a distinct light amber colour, but the tropical fruit aroma normally associated with galaxy hops is completely lacking. Flavour is quite thin and again, lacking the fruit notes I was expecting.

62 Founders Pale Ale United States American Pale Ale 4.1

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9

A great refreshing American Pale Ale that we just don't see in these parts with any regularity. A golden pour, clear with orange hues and a huge white head that lingers a while. Aroma is certainly hoppy with hints of citrus and caramel. Flavour is great with a nice balance between caramel sweetness and citrusy bitterness. An excellent session beer.

63 Amsterdam Cruiser All Day Pale Ale Canada American Pale Ale 3.7

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

A nice hoppy easy drinking ale. It pours a translucent gold colour with a bubbly white head. The first whiff is definitely citrusy hops, and then the tropical fruit notes and grassy malts set in. The flavour is light fruits, grass, and peppery spicy finish.

64 Anchor Liberty Ale United States American Pale Ale 4.1

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Finding an American craft beer in Canada hasn’t been that difficult over the last decade, however finding quality American craft brewed beers has been a challenge. Liberty Ale is one that seems to be here today, gone tomorrow, but comes back again in due time. From what I’ve been told, this is one of the longest brewed beers in America by any craft brewery. It pours a red-tinged gold colour, clear, with a generous white creamy head. The aroma leans toward the citrusy hop style, but there are cereal malts and weak yeast notes too. Flavour is a nice balance between the cereal malt and the bitter citrus hoppiness. An excellent beer.

65 Black Oak Pale Ale Canada American Pale Ale 2.8

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

Okay, they want you to believe it’s a pale ale, but it is really a blonde. Not a lot to this beer. A translucent medium gold coloured pour with a snow white bubbly head. Aroma is grassy malt, some weak citrus, and some metallic notes. The flavour is similar with a strong grainy flavour only slightly offset by the weak citrusy hop notes.

66 Renaissance Discovery New Zealand American Pale Ale 3.4

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

At 4.5%, this is kind of weak for an APA, but I thought I would give it a try anyway. A dark gold pour, slightly cloudy, with a thin white cap fills the glass. The cascade hops are definitely noticeable in the aroma along with citrus and grassy malt. Flavour lacks the hoppish bite one comes to expect from a well made APA, but there are still enough notes of grapefruit and caramel to keep the imbiber interested.

67 Broadhead Underdog Pale Canada American Pale Ale 2.7

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

Everybody likes to cheer for the underdog, but sometimes, the reason that an underdog exists is very apparent. This is described as a ‘hoppy’ beer, but to those of us who have tried it, it is anything but. A slightly clouded copper colour with a thin tan coloured cap that fades away quietly. The aroma is heavy on the bready malt, and light on the citrusy hops…very light. The flavour is a nice balance between the bready malt and the hops, but it’s just a ‘nice’ balance, not a good or great balance,

68 Thornbridge Kipling South Pacific Pale Ale United Kingdom American Pale Ale 3.4

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Part of the 2013 LCBO Summer Release. A slightly cloudy golden pour is topped with a rather large white head. Tropical fruit rules the roost from an aroma perspective with some malt and spices also present. The tropical fruit and citrus dominate the flavour with not much of the malt seen here. Quite refreshing, but nothing outstanding.

69 C'est What Al's Cask Ale Canada American Pale Ale 4.3

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9

One of the original beer bars in Ontario, if not the original, was C’est What? In downtown Toronto. They originally brewed their own beers before finding out that if you remove the vessels and contract out the brewing, you have more room for paying patrons. A solid lineup of beers has kept this place going for over 20 years now. Al’s Cask Ale is listed as an ESB. It pours a clear light cherry red colour with a light tan head. Aroma is caramel malt, and a touch of both earthy and floral hops. Flavour is a tad sweet as the malt kicks in right away while the hops take their time.

70 C'est What Mother Pucker's Ginger Wheat Canada American Wheat 3.3

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

I’ve only seen this on the menu once. Ginger has always been an interesting spice because it is very versatile and can be used in sweet dishes, vegetarian dishes, and meat dishes. Alcoholic ginger ales have always been enjoyable for me, so marrying it to a wheat ale seems like a no brainer. And it works. A red-tinged orange pour, clear, with a small head defines the appearance. The wheat and hops overpower the ginger in the aroma, you notice it, but not as much as you would think. The flavour is really a ginger infused American style wheat beer, not that there’s anything wrong with that!

71 McAuslan St. Ambroise Blé de L'Apricot / McAuslan St. Ambroise Apricot Wheat Canada American Wheat 3.4

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Apricots are one of those fruits that has a very memorable earthy flavour, and McAuslan has succeeded in turning that dominant flavour into a subtly flavoured wheat beer. A nice golden pour, the real in your face attitude comes in the subtle notes of apricot in the aroma and flavour, yet the wheat notes are still very much alove. A fruity American Wheat style at it’s finest.

72 Big Rock Grasshopper Wheat Ale Canada American Wheat 3.3

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

This is a golden-yellow beer with a white head. The aroma is weakly malty with just a hint of wheat. The mouthfeel is thin, with champagne-like carbonation. The flavour is complex, malty, hoppy, and wheaty tones all come through resulting in a very drinkable beer.

73 Railway City The Witty Traveller Canada American Wheat 2.5

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

Canned versions of Belgian styles always have me worried, and that worry was warranted in this case. A hazed light yellow pour is accompanied by a huge white head that doesn’t last very long. The nose is a muddled mess of wheat and spices and the flavour is no better, very heavy in the spice and light on the hops and malt.

74 Wellington Silver Wheat Ale Canada American Wheat 1.8

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3

This beer is in the running for the worst American Wheat style I have tried. It just isn’t that good. It is a pale straw colour with a weak white head. Aroma is metallic in nature, some weak wheat and barley notes, and I’ve yet to notice a hop. Flavour is a hit mess of off-flavours that are inconsistent with wheat beers.

75 Baltika 6 (Porter) Russia Baltic Porter 1.8

Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3

Purchased at the Liquor Control Board of Ontario Store. One would think a Baltic porter brewed in a Baltic seaport would be amazeballs, but they forgot to include the Baltic Brewery because this Baltic Porter is shit. It pours a dark blackish-brown colour with a light brown head. The aroma is roasted malt, molasses, funk, and vomit. The flavour mirrors the aroma, especially the vomit, it was all I could do to get this beer down.
