526 | Le Trou du Diable Shawinigan Handshake | Canada | Weizenbock | 3.8
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 Part of the 2013 LCBO Summer Release. The beer pours a murky rust colour with a thick creamy white head. The bottle says the colour is peach. I haven't seen a Quebec peach that looks like this before. Aroma is bananas, spices, a little alcohol and some out of place funky notes. The flavour is a tad sweet for a Weizenbock, overpowers the wheat and yeasty notes. |

527 | Big Rig Bock Me Gently | Canada | Weizenbock | 3.4
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6 I don't usually buy canned beer these days, but sometimes you can make an exception. As described oin the can, the beer is a clear copper colour. Molasses and caramel best describe the aroma and the flavour. There might be too much bitterness in the finish, but Big Rig isn't known for their finesse in making beer. |

528 | Schneider Weisse Tap 6: Aventinus Weizen Doppelbock | Germany | Weizenbock | 4.4
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 The Schneider Weisse original has always been a favourite of mine and recently I've had the chance to try the dopple and eisbocks. Neither was a letdown. The beer is brown, hazy, and smells of wheat and maple syrup. The flavour is sweet wehat malt, some spices, and light fruit. |

529 | Erdinger Pikantus | Germany | Weizenbock | 4.0
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 Weizenbocks are very hard to find in North America, and dark weizenbocks are even rarer, so I was excited to see this one at the LCBO a while back. A dark brown pour, with a medium sized off-white head. Notes of chocolate, dark fruit, wheat and yeast make up most of the aroma. The flavour starts sweet with the wheat and fruit notes, but the finish is very bitter with the hops and chocolate. |

530 | Weihenstephaner Vitus | Germany | Weizenbock | 4.5
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 I live in hope that someday a Canadian brewery can make a Weizenbock as good as Vitus. A hazy straw beer with plenty of white frothy head. Wheat, banana, cloves and bubblegum are the primary players in the aromatic side of things while the sweet and spicy malt backbone make up the flavour. A well made beer that hies the excess alcohol that comes with a bock. |

531 | 10 Barrel Crush Cucumber Sour | United States | Wild Ale | 2.6
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 It was very hard to rate this beer. It purports to be a Berliner Weisse but not much about the beer said that to me. For one, it wasn’t tart at all, and two, I didn’t detect any wheat. It is a crystal clear pale gold in the glass that starts off with a huge white foamy head, but that is gone in no time. There is definitely cucumber in the aroma, but the aroma is rounded out with artificial perfumy notes of light fruit and spices. The flavour is light, but again, the spiciness is more artificial than real. |

532 | Birrificio del Ducato Luna Rossa | Italy | Wild Ale | 3.4
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 A murky reddish brown pour with a weak tan coloured ring as a cap. Lots of tart cherry aroma, some yeast, some funk. Yeast and cherry dominate the flavour profile. The flavour does lack some balance between the sweetness and the tartness however. |

533 | 10 Barrel Crush Raspberry SOur | United States | Wild Ale | 3.6
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 Making a Berliner Weisse seems to have become a lost art among brewmasters, but thankfully you can still find them if you look hard enough. You can smell the tartness a mile away for this beer. A golden pink beer with almost no head. Lots of tart fruit and wheat in the aroma with some spice hints to round it out. Flavour is very well balanced with some mild fruit sweetness that gives way to the tart notes one expects from the style. |

534 | Cowbell Brewing Pomegranate Honeysuckle Fruit Sour | Canada | Wild Ale | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7 The beer pours a dark murky golden pink colour that will remind you of grapefruit juice, or at least it did with me. Aromatically, they have hidden the honeysuckle quite well, but the pomegranate and cherry notes jump out. The flavour is all about the fruit though. The grainy malt notes and the yeasty notes are all overwhelmed by the fruit. So....not a bad beer at all. |

535 | Woodhouse Hibiscus Raspberry Sour | Canada | Wild Ale | 1.7
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3 Had this at the brewery, and I didn't have the heart to tell them how bad it is because the owner couldn't stop raving about it. It's an overcarbonated mess. Cherry red in colour, head is fleeting, notes of tart raspberries and yeast weak at best. Very watery, and flavour is minimal, but puckering. |

536 | Wellington Digger's Wit | Canada | Witbier | 3.6
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7 In a lot of ways, Witbiers are so yesterday, but at the same time, a good witbier can be quite refreshing. This beer pours a very hazy light yellow colour with a thin white head. Aroma is quite spicy with notes of wheat and yeast. Far more spicy than a Hoegaarden. A lot of yeast and spice in the flavour. Not refreshing, but is tasty. |

540 | Allagash White | United States | Witbier | 3.0
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 5 This is my first Allagash brew, and I must say that I'm a little disappointed. It pours a hazy golden yellow topped off by a snow white cap. Lots of citrus and wheat in the aroma. The flavour is a bit on the sour side, something completely unexpected from a witbier. |

542 | Abbaye des Rocs Blanche des Honnelles | Belgium | Witbier | 3.4
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 This is the darkest witbier I think I have ever seen. A dark golden haze topped by a whitish cap. Aroma is on the spicy end of a witbier, although the wheat and citrus is still there. The flavour is quite peppery up front, but finishes smoothly with wheat. |

543 | Blanche de Bruxelles Manneken Pis | Belgium | Witbier | 3.6
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 A nice witbier for the masses like a Hoegaarden. It pours a nice hazed yellow with a snow wite head. The aroma is typical witbier with notes of yeast and spices. The flavour is sweet wheat with hints of coriander and citrus. I would buy again. |

544 | Alexander Keith's Premium White | Canada | Witbier | 2.0
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 Huge marketing campaign, beer not so huge. Both Rickard’s (Molson) and Alexander Keith’s (Labatt) decided to come out with Belgian style white beers at the same time and neither one was really all that good, and certainly not in the Hoegaarden stratosphear. This is a cloudy yellow beer with a weak aroma of wheat and orange peel and the flavour of coriander spiced sweat socks. |

545 | Amsterdam Oranje Weisse | Canada | Witbier | 3.5
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 This beer seems to have a different name every summer, but the the beer itself never changes. It’s a very clouded light yellow colour with a frothy white head that lasts. Lots of wheat and spices in the aroma. The flavour tends to lean towards the sweet side with the notes of orange and tangerine before finishing with a wheaty malt finish. No matter what they call it, always a refreshing summer brew. |

546 | Broadhead Long Shot White | Canada | Witbier | 2.2
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 An American style wheat beer that at one time was supposed to be a witbier, but somebody messed up. It pours a very hazed piss-yellow colour with a weak snow white head that does last a fair bit. The aroma is tropical fruit, grains, light spice, and floral hops. Nothing in the aroma says ‘wheat or wit’ to me. The flavour is very grainy with subtle tropical fruit flavours. A huge miss in my opinion. |

547 | Blue Moon Belgian White / Belgian Moon | United States | Witbier | 2.8
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 While MolsonCoors and MillerCoors try to pass this off as a craft beer, it’s not. A hazed light yellow pour with a huge white head. The aroma is weak spices, light wheat notes, and tropical fruit. The flavour is metallic wheat, with hints of orange and coriander. |

|
548 | Hoegaarden Original White Ale | Belgium | Witbier | 3.5
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 A classic witbier, quite possibly the original. This beer pours a hazed light yellow colour with a huge bubbly white cap. The aroma is wheat, coriander, and yeast. The flavour is sweet wheat malt, and finishes with a spicy bitter finish. Very refreshing, but nothing real exciting here. |

549 | Le Cheval Blanc Blanche | Canada | Witbier | 3.8
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 This is the #1 selling witbier in Toronto….go figure. It pours a pale straw colour with a huge foamy white head. Aroma is wheat, grainy malt, light citrus, and spices. Flavour is nicely balanced by the sweetness of the wheat and the citrusy hops. I’ve had better wheat beers however. |
