426 Natural Ice United States Pale Lager 1.2

Ah, good ol' Natty Ice, another party favourite from my American days, and another beer that I don't miss at all. If it's available at all in Canada...........pass it by. It's beers like this that gave rise to the 'Canadian Beer is better' myth of the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s.

427 Bud Dry United States Pale Lager 1.7

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3

The first time I had Bud Dry, I thought it was a pretty good beer. It was smooth and crisp and went down well. Each subsequent trime I had it, the first time seemed farther and farther away.

428 Busch Beer United States Pale Lager 2.0

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4

This is a beer that I think is certainly better than the rating that it has received on this site. It's not great, but certainly quaffable and semi-refreshing.

429 Carling Old Vienna / Molson OV Canada Pale Lager 1.7

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3

This is a beer I have never enjoyed, either as a Carling O'Keefe product, or it's later Molson days. It's one of those beers that you order late night at a half empty bar when you want a drink, and they are out of everything else!

430 Molson Old Style Pilsner Canada Pale Lager 1.7

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3

You can't go to Western Canada without trying this shit, er beer. There are very good reasons why this beer is not available in Eastern Canada, and I hope it stays that way....musky describes it well.

431 Molson Ice Canada Pale Lager 1.8

This is wretched stuff that will turn your stomach if you drink enough of it. It was originally marketed in the US as Black Ice, before the 'real' Black Ice came.

432 Molson Golden Canada Pale Lager 2.4

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4

Another one of my go to beers in the 80s as this was one of the brands that Molson was really pushing. I see it more often in America than Canada, and I have to try it because it makes me feel like I'm home

433 Molson Dry Canada Pale Lager 3.3

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6

I've had my share of this beer, certainly enough to last a lifetime. It had a more pronounced flavour in the mid 90s than it has today, which is sad because it used to be better.

434 Molson Canadian Ice Canada Pale Lager 1.6

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3

I'm surprised at a lot of the decently scored reviews on this. I have always found it to be one of the poorer brands in the Molson line-up, weak tasting for an ice beer in my opinion.

435 Molson Canadian 6.0 Cold Shots Canada Pale Lager 1.3

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 2 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 2 | Overall: 2

Quite possibly the most phenolic smelling and metallic tasting product I have tried in a long time. The only reasoin you would drink this ice cold is to shotgun it and get drink faster...although there's less alcohol in one can of this compared to a refgular Canadian or an Export.

Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3

Garbage.....................I first had this in the 70s and it was awful, and recently revisited it with similar dislike. Another beer to avoid (unless you like foul smelling and tasting beer).

437 Coors United States Pale Lager 2.4

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4

Had during a Coors threesome along with Coors Light and Coors Light Iced Tea version. This was the beeriest of the three, the darkest of the three (not saying mych considering you could read a magazine through the other two) and the most full bodied. Again, compared to the Coors Light Iced Tea, this was heaven in a bottle, compared to a Creemore Springs Lager....it's more like 2 minutes of chugging hell.

438 Mill Street Coffee Porter Canada Porter 3.9

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

This beer is a very dark brown in colour, almost black. The aroma is heavy on the coffee..no question what the bloodlines of this beer are. The flavour is a of a slightly sweet coffee.

439 Labatt Porter Canada Porter 2.2

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4

Once poured, you no longer know that this is a Molbatts product. It's not clear, and it's not gold. That said, the aroma and flavour are both watered down when compared to their British and craft counterparts.

440 Rickard's Dark Canada Porter 2.6

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 5

This is a porter as much as Bud Light is an IIPA. That said, it has more flavour than most beers from the Molson Coors conglomerate, and that can never be a bad thing.

441 Beer Academy Porter Canada Porter 4.0

Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

This is my favourite beer from the Beer Academy line. If I didn't know iut was a porter, I would have thought it was an excellent example of a plain stout. Pours a rich dark brown with black edges. Lots of roast and vanilla in the nose, along wioth a little fruit and some vanilla. Not overly bitter on the tongue, always a plus iwth a porter or stout.

442 Collective Arts Stranger Than Fiction Canada Porter 4.3

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9

There is a time and place for every beer style, and when I am where I need to be for a porter, Stranger Than Fiction is in my top 20 list. A beautiful solid brown pour with black edges, it is topped off with a creamy dark brown head. Dark chocolate and coffee are the first things that hit both the nose and the tongue. Nothing too bitter here which makes it an easy drinking porter.

443 Forked River Full City Coffee Porter Canada Porter 3.4

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

A dark brown pour with black edges and a weak bubbly brown head. Lots of roasted malt with coffee and dark fruits in the aroma. The flavour is roasted malt, bitter coffee, and dark chocolate. Quite dry for a porter.

444 Fuller's London Porter United Kingdom Porter 4.9

Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 10 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 10 | Overall: 10

Quite possibly the best porter brewed anywhere in the world. A solid coca cola colour with a thick creamy light brown head. Rich notes of roasted malt, dark chocolate, and coffee fill the nostrils before later tingling the tongue with the addition of dark fruits and caramel. An excellent beer.

445 South River Blacksmith Smoked Porter / Highlander Blacksmith Smoked Porter Canada Porter 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

I hate it when a company advertises their beer as something and then doesn’t deliver. Fortunately for Highlander, they delivered all the elements they described in this beer, and they did it well, surprisingly considering the brewer. The beer pours a solid black with brown edges where it meets the glass. The cap is brown, and creamy, and lasts a few minutes. The aroma definitely has a smokiness to it, as well as plums, molasses, vanilla, and roasted malt. The smokiness also has a presence in the flavour, but gives way to sweet malt notes such as caramel and molasses.

446 John Sleeman Presents Fine Porter Canada Porter 2.4

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4

For a brewery that boasts as much as Sleeman does, I would expect their products to go above and beyond, but unfortunately that fall as flat as the macros. This is a medium to dark brown pour with a light brown head that laces well. Toasted malt and caramel make up the bulk of the aroma with light hints of dark chocolate joining those to make up the flavour. Nothing that you need to try in this lifetime.

447 Scotch Irish Black Irish Plain Porter Canada Porter 3.9

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Scotch Irish were a master at roasted malt beers in my opinion, or at least, I enjoyed all that I tried. It pours a solid black coca-cola like colour with a tight creamy cap that lasts a while. Loads of roasted malt and chocolate in the aroma with a little vanilla and licorice. The tastebuds get much the same experience as the liquid flows over them…lots of coffee and chocolate notes leading to a bitter finish.

448 Renaissance Elemental Porter New Zealand Porter 3.9

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

This is their prize winning porter, and while it's very good, it's not a beer that I would die for. A blackish-brown pour is topped by a thin dark brown creamy head. Burnt wood, butterscotch, coffee and roasted malt make up the aroma. Flavour is neither too sweet, or harshly bitter, combining the coffee and butterscotch flavours into a well balanced beer.

449 Founders Porter United States Porter 4.4

Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9

A most excellent porter. Nice black body topped by a brown head that lasts for days. Roasted malt with the usual suspect aromas.....coffee, cholcolate, and vanilla. Flavour is a balance of roasted maltiness and a hint of sweet chocolate. Did I mention it was a most excellent porter?

450 Deschutes Black Butte Porter United States Porter 4.5

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9

I've heard this is much better on draught than in the bottle unfortunately I have not had the opportunity to try it that way, so bottle it is. The beer has a coca-cola appearance to it with a black body and glowing brown edges. The head is creamy, dark brown in colour. The nose picks up hints of roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, and hints of anise. The flavour is quite complex and similar to the aroma. Lots of malty goodness in this one!
