176 Woodhouse India Pale Ale Canada IPA 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Having been to the brewery a couple of times and been very disappointed in their stuff, I was kind of surprised that this was quite good. It's a dark gold pour, some haze, maybe even a floaty or two. I smell a lot of elements in this such as cereal, orange rind, and papaya. The flavours meld together nicely making this a nice drinking beer.

177 Woodhouse Hibiscus Raspberry Sour Canada Wild Ale 1.7

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3

Had this at the brewery, and I didn't have the heart to tell them how bad it is because the owner couldn't stop raving about it. It's an overcarbonated mess. Cherry red in colour, head is fleeting, notes of tart raspberries and yeast weak at best. Very watery, and flavour is minimal, but puckering.

178 Belgh Brasse Mons Abbey Dubbel Canada Abbey Dubbel 3.6

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

The beer is a dark brown pour with ruby hints at the edges. The head is light brown in colour, creamy, and sticks around. Figs and raisins are the dominant aromas with yeast, spices, and roasted malt also present. Maybe a little bit of caramel as well. Like a lot of Dubbels, the beer starts off sweet with notes of nuts and fruit, but finishes bitter as the hops kick in. A good dubbel

179 Cowbell Brewing Pomegranate Honeysuckle Fruit Sour Canada Wild Ale 3.2

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7

The beer pours a dark murky golden pink colour that will remind you of grapefruit juice, or at least it did with me. Aromatically, they have hidden the honeysuckle quite well, but the pomegranate and cherry notes jump out. The flavour is all about the fruit though. The grainy malt notes and the yeasty notes are all overwhelmed by the fruit. So....not a bad beer at all.

180 Whitewater Brewing KLR 93 Canada Kölsch 3.0

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

Named after Doug Gilmour, an NHL Hall of Famer who shouldn’t be, but that story is for another time. This is a kolsch. Not my favourite style. This is a very clear beer, pale yellow with a foamy white head. No head retention whatsoever though. Cereal notes dominate the flavour and the aroma with a hint of floral hops to keep it somewhat interesting

181 Whitewater Brewing Legion Lager Canada Lager 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Craft lagers are a finicky bunch. They claim to be adjunct free, but they don’t always taste that way. This one tastes adjunct free, and is pretty good for a ‘lager’. A dark straw coloured beer with a thin white foamy head greets the eyes while the nostrils are tempted with notes of light floral hops and cereal malts. The tongue is greeted with hints of cereal, and spicy hops. Well done.

182 Wellington Upside IPA Canada IPA 3.7

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Juicy IPAs are the latest in the IPA canon of beers, replacing the prior fads of Session, Black, and American. A reddish gold body, some haze, and a weak off-white head make up the appearance. The nose senses grass and fruit right off the start, and upon closer examination, there is yeast. Flavour is very citrusy, not like a breakfast juice, but certainly juicier than most traditional west coast IPAs

183 Wellington Helles Lager Canada Helles / Dortmunder 3.3

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

A new beer in the Wellington lineup, German style lagers are always welcome in my book. This beer pours a shiny light gold colour with a little haze, and a foamy white head. Not a lot of head retention though. Nice grainy malt aromas and herbal hops. Typical of the style. This is not a well balanced beer though, more malt forward than a true German Helles.

184 Wellington Digger's Wit Canada Witbier 3.6

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7

In a lot of ways, Witbiers are so yesterday, but at the same time, a good witbier can be quite refreshing. This beer pours a very hazy light yellow colour with a thin white head. Aroma is quite spicy with notes of wheat and yeast. Far more spicy than a Hoegaarden. A lot of yeast and spice in the flavour. Not refreshing, but is tasty.

185 Howe Sound King Heffy Imperial Hefeweizen Canada Hefeweizen 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Part of the 2013 LCBO Summer Release. Sometimes I question a brewer's sanity when everything they send you is in 1 litre bottles, and is an imperial something or other. This seems to be the modus operandi of Howe Sound. Beer is a hazed golden orange in colour, head is slightly off-white, but thick and lasts. The wheat, banana, and cloves are certainly apparent in the aroma. Maybe some alcohol as well. The flavour is very Germanic, wheat, yeast, and spices.....but there is a definite alcohol presence as well.

186 Charlevoix Dominus Vobiscum Saison Canada Saison 3.9

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Part of the 2013 LCBO Summer Release. I like the Dominus Vobiscum series of brews and this is no exception. A murky gold pour, lots of effervescence, and a tight creamy white head to top it off. Yeast, spices, and grains dominate the aroma, not much in the way of funk here. Flavour is similar to the smell, not a lot of funk to offset the yeast and spicy notes, but that increases the drinkability.

187 Le Trou du Diable Shawinigan Handshake Canada Weizenbock 3.8

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Part of the 2013 LCBO Summer Release. The beer pours a murky rust colour with a thick creamy white head. The bottle says the colour is peach. I haven't seen a Quebec peach that looks like this before. Aroma is bananas, spices, a little alcohol and some out of place funky notes. The flavour is a tad sweet for a Weizenbock, overpowers the wheat and yeasty notes.

188 Mad and Noisy Sunny and Share Canada Saison 3.9

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

THis was a pretty refreshing alcoholic beverage. The people at Creemore and the Mad and Noisy team seem to have an idea what they're doing. A yellow-orange pour, decent head, and some effervescence provide the visual appearance. A little bit of funk and yeast and a lot of citrus provide the aromatic backdrop for this beer. The flavour is an easy drinking lemony flavour with yeast, funk, and grains thrown in for good measure

189 Mad and Noisy Hops and Bolts India Pale Lager Canada Lager 3.7

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

If you take away the colour (poured a dark pink grapefruit colour) then this is one bad ass beer. A lot of citrusy hops, some malt, and spices make up the aroma. The be all and end all of this beer is the hoppy flavour found here that you can't find in other lagers, combined with the slight spiciness. A great lager!

190 Beer Academy Wee Heavy Canada Scottish Ale 3.4

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

I've been sitting on this one a few months now and thought I would finally crack 'er open and give her a try. A brown pour with black edges, thin brown head. Nothing remakable. You could tell from the odour that this was going to be a sweet beer. Dark fruit, molasses and butterscotch. A tad sweet on the tongue as well, butterscotch, molasses, and fruit. Not very well balanced but drinkable nonetheless.

191 Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale Canada IPA 1.9

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4

The Pride of Nova Scotia is not something a beer geek would be proud of. Thios is an old turn of the century English IPA according to the beerhunter Michael Jackson. I'm not convinced that it is. A very clear pale gold with a thin white head. Aroma is corn, metal, and not much else. Flavour is just gross. The fact that I have not reviewed this before astounds me.

192 Alexander Keith's Hop Series: Hallertau Canada American Pale Ale 3.0

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

The second of the three new single hop pale ales from Nova Scotia. This one pours slightly darker than the Cascade, but with a smaller head. The aroma is very lagerish with very earthy hop note. Flavour is quite grassy, but clean. The best of the three in my opinion.

193 Alexander Keith's Hop Series: Galaxy Canada American Pale Ale 2.8

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

The third in the Alexander Keith's single hop pale ale series. I had high hopes for this one, but was extremely disappointed. The darkest beer yet with a distinct light amber colour, but the tropical fruit aroma normally associated with galaxy hops is completely lacking. Flavour is quite thin and again, lacking the fruit notes I was expecting.

194 Alexander Keith's Hop Series: Cascade Canada American Pale Ale 2.6

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

The first of three single hop ales brewed by Alexander Keith's. A hazed golden yellow with a white head. Aroma definitely has more of a hop note than their regular IPA. Flavour is still pretty bland with a lot of adjunct still detectable.

195 Arch Brewing Dinner Jacket O'Red IPA Canada IPA 3.0

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

Not sure the thoughts behind this beer, or if it is just another brewery tyring to get it's foot in the door. Quite red for an IPA, and the head is amost non-existent. The hops are prominent in the aroma as are notes of caramel and grass. Grass and weak citrus notes dominate the flavour. There are so many other brewers in Ontario doing a better job these days.

196 Big Rig Bock Me Gently Canada Weizenbock 3.4

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6

I don't usually buy canned beer these days, but sometimes you can make an exception. As described oin the can, the beer is a clear copper colour. Molasses and caramel best describe the aroma and the flavour. There might be too much bitterness in the finish, but Big Rig isn't known for their finesse in making beer.

197 Alexander Keith's Hop Series: Celeia Canada American Pale Ale 2.7

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

The Alkexander Keith hop series has been a massive faailure among craft beer drinkers. While I am sure it is a well-intentioned attempt to win back clients by making a better quality beer, there are others who are looking at it as a cowardly feeble attempt to play with craft guys. Unfortunately craft beer drinkers think the quality falls far short of expectations and Keith's drinkers think this is a waste of money that could be spent on their IPA. This is an orange coloured beer with a white head. Aroma is certainly hoppy, mixed with typical cereal malt off smells. Flavour is a tad malty for a beer showing off a hop.

198 Alexander Keith's Hop Series: Saphir Canada American Pale Ale 2.4

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4

The most recent beer I've tried from the not so wonderful Alexander Keith Hop series of beers. A red-tinged gold in appearance, head is white, lacing is non-existent. Aroma is herbal and spicy with cereal malts. Flavour is metallic with weak herbal hoppy notes.

199 Amsterdam Natural Blonde Lager Canada Lager 3.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

I've had several Amsterdam products over the years and I can't believe this is the first I've rated. A clear yellow beer with a white head. Lots of biscuit malt and flowery hops in the nose. A rather bland grainy lager that was reminiscent of Canadian craft brewers late in the 20th century.

200 Beau's All Natural / Kissmeyer Nordic Pale Ale Canada Spiced Beer 3.6

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Local brewer but their product can be difficult to drink because they are very loose in their interpretation of styles. Light golden colour, slight murkiness, and a weak off-white cap. Aroma is floral and herbal with yeast and sweet malt in the background. Flavour is herbal with some up front malty notes. A nice effort, and certainly something different.
