426 | Guinness Draught | Ireland | Dry Stout | 4.6
Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 10 | Overall: 9 I find it hard to believe that I am opnly getting around to rating this now having had it hundreds of times in the past 40 years. Well, it's the stout by which all stouts are measured, so by that statement, it should get a 10 for everything....shouldn't it? I'll be quick about this. Appearance is dark brown with black edges and a huge creamy light brown head. The nose is rooasted malt, and coffee...good coffee. Flavour is a nice balance of roasted malt and bitter goldings. Can't beat it. |

428 | Caffreys Irish Ale | Ireland | Irish Ale | 2.7
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 One of the ubiquitous Irish beers found in Ontario along with Kilkenny, Smithwicks, Harp, and Guinness. And probably the worst of the bunch. The beer has described as both an Irish Red and as a Bitter. Neither one needs to be sullied by this. It pours a clear red-tinged golden colour with a weak white cap. The aroma is grass, yeast, and weak floral hops. The flavour is similar with the graininess of the hops being overly powerful and the hops getting lost in the mix. |

429 | Murphy's Irish Stout | Ireland | Dry Stout | 3.2
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 I tried this recently after having known it existed for the last 50 years, and was kind of disappointed to find out it is now a Heineken product. Oh well. It isn’t that bad of a stout however. A very dark brown beer with a cap that’s light tan coloured and creamy. Typical Irish stout aroma of coffee and chicory and little else. Flavour falls in line too. I wish I had tried it 30 years ago. |

430 | Carlow Molings Traditional Red Ale / O'Hara's Irish Red | Ireland | Irish Ale | 3.8
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 A world renowned ale that has the unfortunate reputation of being ‘just another Irish Stout’ in a country that produces Guinness. Personally, this is a very good stout. A dark mahogany colour with a creamy light brown head. No cascading effervescence here. Both the aroma and taste are roasted malts with light touches of coffee and dark chocolate |

431 | Birrificio del Ducato Nuova Mattina / New Morning | Italy | Saison | 3.6
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 The bottle is shaped like a small club, and when the bottle is full, probably makes a great weapon. I would think that saisons would be a great style for a country like Italy. A cloudy golden pour with lots of foam on top. Aroma is funky and spicy with tons of herbs in the mix. Flavour is spicy with notes of yeast, citrus, and earthy flavours. |

432 | Birra Moretti | Italy | Lager | 2.8
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 Every time I go to Italy, it is either this or Peroni that is the local draught. Both non-offensive, but neither worth drinking. The beer is a pale gold colour, clear, with a white head. The aroma is grains, and weak hops, with plenty of adjuncts. The flavour is typical of a North American pale lager with a grainy nature and plenty of off-notes. |

433 | Birra Moretti Baffo D’oro | Italy | Lager | 3.5
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 This is my Italian lager of choice, although not every Italian joint carries it. A deep gold colour with a thin white cap. The aroma is biscuit malts, some herbal hoppiness, and a slight citrus note. Flavour is quite malty with hints of weak spice and hops. An excellent Italian beer. |

434 | Birra Moretti La Rossa | Italy | Doppelbock | 3.6
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 Italian dopplebocks are quite rare, and this one isn’t that bad. A reddish brown pour with beige coloured head. The aroma is very malty with notes of sweet dark fruit, some rasted malt, nuts, and caramel. The beer has a malty sweetness to it that isn’t overpowering, yet at the same time has a dry nuttiness to it as well. |

435 | Birrificio del Ducato Luna Rossa | Italy | Wild Ale | 3.4
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 A murky reddish brown pour with a weak tan coloured ring as a cap. Lots of tart cherry aroma, some yeast, some funk. Yeast and cherry dominate the flavour profile. The flavour does lack some balance between the sweetness and the tartness however. |

436 | Birrificio del Ducato Bia IPA | Italy | IPA | 3.3
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 The colour is typical of an American IPA with a cloudy golden orange and topped with a creamy beige head. Typical American IPA aroma with lots of pine, grapefruit, and toffee notes. Where it fails is in the flavour, not as robust or as hoppy as an American IPA with muted citrus and caramel notes. |

|
437 | Birrificio del Ducato Verdi Imperial Stout | Italy | Imperial Stout | 4.1
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 This is one dark pour. Coal black with a dark brown cap. Beautiful to look at. There is plenty of coffee, chocolate, and roast in the aroma to keep a stout lover happy. The flavour is very malty with a host of coffee and chocolate complexity. |

438 | Asahi Super Dry | Japan | Lager | 1.7
Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 4 Purchased at Liquor Control Board of Ontario store. This is one of the dregs of the beer world. It pours a clear light gold colour with an oversized white cap that quicky disappears. Aroma is skunky vegetables, acid, and grass. Flavour is malt-forward with plenty of skunky and off-flavours. |

439 | Aldaris Porteris | Latvia | Baltic Porter | 2.8
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 Purchased at Liquor Control Board of Ontario store. The beer pours a sold dark brown colour with black edges, and thin creamy brown ring for a cap. The aroma consisted of roasted malt, caramel, molasses, and coffee. The flavour was reminiscent of the aroma with roasted malt and caramel dominated, and a bitter finish. |

440 | Aldaris Zelta | Latvia | Pale Lager | 2.3
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 Purchased at Liquor Control Board of Ontario store. A lager that is like most North American yellow fizzy beers. A clear golden pour with a huge white head that disappears before your eyes. Grass and vegetables make up most of the aroma with a weak hop presence noted. The flavout is pretty skunky with plenty of metallic and acidic notes dominating any clean grain flavours. |

441 | Bavaria Holland Beer | Netherlands | Lager | 1.8
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 4 Another typical European Pale Lager that probably oinly exists so that the brewer can have an entry into the space. Pale gold in colour, the head is snow white and generous. The aroma is metallic, grassy, and weak hops, probably Saaz. The flavour is typical of a North American adjunct lager with the metallic and acidic flavours of the malt and adjuncts coming through. |

442 | Heineken Buckler | Netherlands | Reduced Alcohol | 1.9
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3 I've known about Buckler beer for decades, they used to sponsor a team on the World Cycling Tour in the 1980s. Jelle Nijdam won a TdF prologue while racing for Buckler. It is a very clear gold, and the head starts out large but quickly disappears. Aroma is typical of the pale lager style, but the flavour is severely lacking. The bottle lists hops, but none can be detected. |

443 | Heineken 0.0 | Netherlands | Reduced Alcohol | 2.5
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 I wonder why Heieneken needs both Buckler and 0.0 as low alcohol beers? Another clear gold pour, head is white, and vanishes into thin air. Aroma is very similar to Heineken, maybe even better because there are no icky adjunct aromas in this one. Flavour is that of a watered down golden lager. |

444 | Jopen Hoppenbier | Netherlands | Belgian Ale | 3.6
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 This beer is older than I am. A recipe dating back to 1501 it’s a Dutch originated Belgian Ale currently back in Dutch territory. It appears as a cloudy light yellow liquid with a weak bubbly white head. The aroma has some tripel characteristics to it with notes of yeast, honey, grains, and citrus. The flavour has a definite spicy and citrusy hop note to it with the malt in the background. |

445 | Heineken Lager | Netherlands | Pale Lager | 2.0
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 I have acquaintances who measure how good a bar is based on whether or not you can get a Heineken. If you can – it’s a go to bar. If you can’t, then it is to be avoided at all costs. Heineken to me is a bad beer. A pale golden beer with a soft white cap that smells like old grains and skunks. It tastes like stale grains and bathwater. Surprisingly, there are worse beers out there. |

446 | Renaissance Craftsman Oatmeal Chocolate Stout | New Zealand | Oatmeal Stout | 3.8
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 A very dark brown beer with black edges, and a huge frothy brown head that stocks around until the end. Coffee, chocolate, and molasses can be noticed in the aroma with a little nuttiness. Flavour is on the sweet side for the style with the molasses and chocolate being the dominant forces on the tongue. Would have been better had it been a bit heavier |

447 | Renaissance Discovery | New Zealand | American Pale Ale | 3.4
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 At 4.5%, this is kind of weak for an APA, but I thought I would give it a try anyway. A dark gold pour, slightly cloudy, with a thin white cap fills the glass. The cascade hops are definitely noticeable in the aroma along with citrus and grassy malt. Flavour lacks the hoppish bite one comes to expect from a well made APA, but there are still enough notes of grapefruit and caramel to keep the imbiber interested. |

448 | Renaissance Elemental Porter | New Zealand | Porter | 3.9
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 This is their prize winning porter, and while it's very good, it's not a beer that I would die for. A blackish-brown pour is topped by a thin dark brown creamy head. Burnt wood, butterscotch, coffee and roasted malt make up the aroma. Flavour is neither too sweet, or harshly bitter, combining the coffee and butterscotch flavours into a well balanced beer. |

449 | Renaissance Marlborough Pale Ale | New Zealand | Imperial IPA | 3.7
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 This pours a clear amber colour with a small tan ring for a cap. Probably the reddest and clearest DIPA I've ever had. Aroma contains quite a bit of pine with a backdrop of alcohol, grapefruit, and peppery spices. Flavour is caramel, grapefruit, and spices. While you can smell the alcohol, it can't really be tasted. |

450 | Renaissance Perfection | New Zealand | English Pale Ale | 3.7
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7 So, the American Pale Ale is under strength, and an over strength English Pale Ale is their so called perfection. Nope, can't tell that New Zealand's a Commonwealth country. A deep amber pour, slightly hazed, is topped off by a thin cream coloured cap. Aroma has some floral hop notes, some caramel, and some grains. Not very inviting. Flavour however is very well balanced between the hops and malt and is quite good, yet somehow, still not perfect. |
