201 | Broadhead Dark Horse Stout | Canada | Oatmeal Stout | 2.9
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 Another beer from Broadhead that has me and some friends of mine thinking ‘what we’re they thinking’. The pour is a solid dark brown, with a light brown creamy cap. Aroma is very much at the roasted malt/chocolate end of the spectrum with not much in the way of coffee. The flavour is rather one dimensional as well with lots of roasted malt and milk chocolate, and nothing too bitter to keep it in check. |

202 | Broadhead Amber / Broadhead Grindstone Amber | Canada | Amber Ale | 2.5
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 Living close to this brewery made me interested in their offerings, tasting them has sort of turned me off of them unfortunately. This is as described, an amber coloured beer, slightly hazy, and with an off-white cap. Aroma consist of caramel, weak citrusy hops, and plenty of off-putting earthy notes. Flavour starts out sweet, but by the time the finish is there, it is quite acidic. Not a winner. |

203 | Broadhead Long Shot White | Canada | Witbier | 2.2
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 An American style wheat beer that at one time was supposed to be a witbier, but somebody messed up. It pours a very hazed piss-yellow colour with a weak snow white head that does last a fair bit. The aroma is tropical fruit, grains, light spice, and floral hops. Nothing in the aroma says ‘wheat or wit’ to me. The flavour is very grainy with subtle tropical fruit flavours. A huge miss in my opinion. |

204 | Broadhead Underdog Pale | Canada | American Pale Ale | 2.7
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 Everybody likes to cheer for the underdog, but sometimes, the reason that an underdog exists is very apparent. This is described as a ‘hoppy’ beer, but to those of us who have tried it, it is anything but. A slightly clouded copper colour with a thin tan coloured cap that fades away quietly. The aroma is heavy on the bready malt, and light on the citrusy hops…very light. The flavour is a nice balance between the bready malt and the hops, but it’s just a ‘nice’ balance, not a good or great balance, |

205 | Caffreys Irish Ale | Ireland | Irish Ale | 2.7
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 One of the ubiquitous Irish beers found in Ontario along with Kilkenny, Smithwicks, Harp, and Guinness. And probably the worst of the bunch. The beer has described as both an Irish Red and as a Bitter. Neither one needs to be sullied by this. It pours a clear red-tinged golden colour with a weak white cap. The aroma is grass, yeast, and weak floral hops. The flavour is similar with the graininess of the hops being overly powerful and the hops getting lost in the mix. |

206 | Cameron's Auburn Ale | Canada | Amber Ale | 4.1
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 When Cameron’s first started brewing, their trademark was the case of nine, and this was one of the first beers they brewed, and while it has since been eclipsed by their rye beers, it is still the most flavourful of the original beers. Citrusy hops and caramel malts are both melded together to give this beer a great aroma and flavour that still make it one of my favourites. |

207 | Cameron's Cream Ale | Canada | Cream Ale | 4.1
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 If you’ve become a beer drinker in Ontario over the last 25 years, you associate Sleeman’s with the term ‘cream ale’. Cameron’s is the brewer that perfected it. A medium gold pour with a generous white head that lingers a while. Sweet grainy malt, and ample floral hops make up the aroma while the grainy malt dominates the mellow flavour. |

208 | Cameron's Rye Pale Ale / Cameron's Recollection Rye Pale Ale | Canada | Rye Beer | 4.4
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 This is one of the best beers brewed in Ontario. The spicy rye flavour lingers on the tongue the perfect amount of time. A slightly clouded medium gold pour with a snow white head. Peppery spice, rye, and yeast are the dominant notes in the aroma. The spicy rye flavour is to die for however and this is a beer I could drink all day every day. |

209 | Ceres Royal Selection | Denmark | Helles / Dortmunder | 1.8
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3 I assume that the target audience for this beer is high school kids looking to get a huge buzz on for a Saturday night, or prior to the high school dance. This is a malt liquor. It is clear gold in colour and all you can really smell is alcohol. Not much in the way of grains or hops are present unfortunately. |

210 | C'est What Big Butt Smoked Dark Ale | Canada | Smoked Ale | 4.0
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 Beer and bacon in a glass, with coffee and dark chocolate as part of the mix. While this beer isn’t an outstanding in your face beer, I can’t find anything to fault it either. One of the best things about this beer for me is the subtleness of the smokiness, too many brewers give you an onslaught that turns me off. Not here, the smoked wood bacon flavour marries well with the roasted malt and coffee notes providing a nice flavour balance for me. |

211 | C'est What Burnt Offering Harvest Ale | Canada | Dry Stout | 4.1
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 I’ve heard there were only a couple of kegs of this made (I could be wrong, Toronto is a place I try to avoid) so I’m lucky I got to try it. An almost black beer with a brown creamy head. Unlike Big Butt, the smokiness in this one was less than subtle, but still not overpowering. The flavour was roasted malt, smoked meat, and weak coffee. |

212 | C'est What Caraway Rye Beer | Canada | Rye Beer | 3.9
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 I’ve always loved rye beers, so much that I probably wouldn’t know a bad one if I tasted it. Thankfully, this is a good one. The beer pours a clear orange hued copper colour with a thin off-white head. Rye is prevalent in the aroma, but also some caramel and floral hops. The flavour is spicy rye, with hints of caramel and light fruit (apple maybe). |

213 | C'est What Al's Cask Ale | Canada | American Pale Ale | 4.3
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 One of the original beer bars in Ontario, if not the original, was C’est What? In downtown Toronto. They originally brewed their own beers before finding out that if you remove the vessels and contract out the brewing, you have more room for paying patrons. A solid lineup of beers has kept this place going for over 20 years now. Al’s Cask Ale is listed as an ESB. It pours a clear light cherry red colour with a light tan head. Aroma is caramel malt, and a touch of both earthy and floral hops. Flavour is a tad sweet as the malt kicks in right away while the hops take their time. |

214 | C'est What Chocolate Ale | Canada | Chocolate Stout | 4.0
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 Again, long ago there was a simple chocolate ale at C’est What that everybody enjoyed. It was a brown ale, dark brown in colour, with a light brown head. The aroma was nutty malt with hints of coffee and dark chocolate. The flavour on the other hand was all chocolate all the time. If you like chocolate and beer, this was your thing! |

215 | C'est What Coffee Porter | Canada | Porter | 4.3
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 In a lot of ways, beer and coffee were meant to be together weren’t they? This porter is one of those reminders that coffee isn’t just for breakfast any more. A murky brown pour with a slight foamy head is what I see in my glass. I can sense roasted malt, coffee, and some earthy hops on the nose. My tongue notices the bitter coffee flavour right away, but also senses some milk chocolate as well. We’re all happy! |

216 | C'est What Old Town Brown | Canada | Brown Ale | 3.2
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6 A beer from days of yore, or so it appeared on the menu as such. A mild brown that was flavourful, but not too bitter. The beer was a mahogany coloured beer with a medium sized tan coloured cap. Aroma had some bready notes, some coffee, and some roast to it while the flavour was more akin to sweet dark chocolate with a hint of smokiness. |

217 | C'est What Hazelnut Chocolate Ale | Canada | Chocolate Stout | 3.4
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 The first time I saw this on the menu (and the Hazelnut Coffee Porter) I was thinking Nutella. Sadly, not a Nutella tasting beer. It is dark brown, with a light brown cap, and smells like roasted malt and dark chocolate. There is a hazelnut flavour in the finish so all is not lost. |

|
218 | C'est What Hazelnut Coffee Porter | Canada | Porter | 3.9
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 Really just a hazelnut enhanced version of the Coffee Porter, but unlike the Hazelnut chocolate ale, it is harder to discern the hazelnut in the beer where it is easily overpowered by the coffee notes, but as I’ve said before…coffee and beer are a match made on the beer version of the Dating game! |

219 | C'est What Homegrown Hemp Ale | Canada | Spiced Beer | 3.7
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 One of the original beer bars in Ontario, if not the original, was C’est What? In downtown Toronto. They originally brewed their own beers before finding out that if you remove the vessels and contract out the brewing, you have more room for paying patrons. A solid lineup of beers has kept this place going for over 20 years now. The Homegrown Hemp Ale is a light amber coloured beer with a thin white head. The aroma is grains, weak hemp seeds, and weak earthy hops. The flavour is a nice balance between the malt and hops that made this a favourite of mine when visiting Toronto. |

220 | C'est What Mild Brown Ale | Canada | Brown Ale | 3.7
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 In this case, MBA stands for mild brown ale, but C’est What? Is so close to Toronto’s financial district, you have to wonder if it’s real. The beer pours a solid brown colour with a thin creamy tan coloured head. The aroma is caramel and roasted malt with some floral hops in there as well. Flavour is primarily nutty malt with a weak bitter finish. Doesn’t sound too exciting, but it’s a solid beer. |

221 | C'est What Mother Pucker's Ginger Wheat | Canada | American Wheat | 3.3
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 I’ve only seen this on the menu once. Ginger has always been an interesting spice because it is very versatile and can be used in sweet dishes, vegetarian dishes, and meat dishes. Alcoholic ginger ales have always been enjoyable for me, so marrying it to a wheat ale seems like a no brainer. And it works. A red-tinged orange pour, clear, with a small head defines the appearance. The wheat and hops overpower the ginger in the aroma, you notice it, but not as much as you would think. The flavour is really a ginger infused American style wheat beer, not that there’s anything wrong with that! |

223 | C'est What Sierra Excellent Ale | Canada | Mild Ale | 3.5
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 Another in a long line of mild beers from the creative minds at C’est What? This one is a murky medium gold colour with a frothy off-white head. The aroma is grass, some herbs, and some yeast. The flavour is light sweet fruit, with an almost spicy peppery finish. Different, but good. |

224 | C'est What Steve's Dreaded Chocolate Orange Ale | Canada | Porter | 4.4
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9 One of the two new chocolate beers at C’est What, and the best of the two. A dark brown beer with a light brown head. The aroma is dominated by dark chocolate and oranges, like something out of the Lindt factory. Unfortunately, the orange gets lost in the flavour and is barely noticeable, but the chocolate overload makes up for it. |

225 | Clancy's Amber Ale | Canada | Amber Ale | 2.6
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 After years of trying to get people to think that Moosehead was a premium craft brand, the Oland family finally gave up and gave us the Clancy’s line of beers. We weren’t fooled. Clancy’s Amber is a pale golden colour with a weak white ring that doesn’t lace well. Bready malt, weak caramel, and metallic notes permeate the aromatic senses while the taste is a weak caramel flavoured blonde ale. |
