---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
326 | Banks Beer | Barbados | Pale Lager | 2.4
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 I look at the scores and I didn't think this beer was as bad as others. It certainly outranks Corona in my books. A typical pale lager with a pale golden colour, white foamy cap, aroma of grass and weak hops, and the flavour is very grainy. I did not notice any adjuncts here, just a watered down lager. |

327 | Bavaria Holland Beer | Netherlands | Lager | 1.8
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 4 Another typical European Pale Lager that probably oinly exists so that the brewer can have an entry into the space. Pale gold in colour, the head is snow white and generous. The aroma is metallic, grassy, and weak hops, probably Saaz. The flavour is typical of a North American adjunct lager with the metallic and acidic flavours of the malt and adjuncts coming through. |

328 | Beck's | Germany | Lager | 2.0
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 I can recall that growing up during the 70s, that people considered this 'the best beer in the world'. I can recall first tasting it during the late 70s and thinking it was so much better than a Molson Export or Canadian or a Labatt Blue or 50. Today, I would take any one of those beers over a Beck's. Everything is typical of a North AMerican pale lager from the pale gold colour, to the phenol aromas, to the corny taste. Nothing to make it premium any more. |

329 | Belhaven Best | United Kingdom | Bitter | 3.0
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 One needs to be in the mood for a British beer at times, and when I first had this, I was really in the mood, but future visits have proben disappointing. Clear copper in colour with a thinnish off-white head. Aroma is caramel, grains, and floral hops. Flavour is dominated by the caramel notes with some off-tastes present if you look for them. |

331 | Belhaven Wee Heavy | United Kingdom | Scottish Ale | 3.9
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8 I have always found Scotch Ales to be hit and miss, and I dare say that this one was a hit. A very dark mahogany colour with a light brown cap. Aroma is caramel, molasses, and nuts. The flavour is rich, sweet, and satisfying with notes of molasses, coffee, and plums. |

332 | Birrificio del Ducato Nuova Mattina / New Morning | Italy | Saison | 3.6
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 The bottle is shaped like a small club, and when the bottle is full, probably makes a great weapon. I would think that saisons would be a great style for a country like Italy. A cloudy golden pour with lots of foam on top. Aroma is funky and spicy with tons of herbs in the mix. Flavour is spicy with notes of yeast, citrus, and earthy flavours. |

333 | Buxton Imperial Black India Pale Ale | United Kingdom | American Black Ale | 4.7
Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 10 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 A new beer at the local LCBO, and one of the top rated Black IPA's on Ratebeer. It's quite the beer. A velvery black pour gives rise to a generous cap of tanned creaminess. Hops pelt the nose right as the cap comes off the bottle, followed by notes of pine and coffee. Full bodied and slightly creamy as it dances over the tongue. Again, the citrus comes through in the flavour in flying colours, followed by some nutty roasted malt and coffee flavours. |

334 | 8 Wired iStout | New Zealand | Imperial Stout | 4.6
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 10 | Overall: 9 Finally a stout worth writing home about. An oily dark black pour results in a foamy chocolate brown head. Chocolate, coffee, burnt grains, and molasses comprise the aroma. Body is very full. Lots of chocolate and coffee in the flavours with some hop notes in the finish. Great beer. |

335 | Founders Backwoods Bastard | United States | Scottish Ale | 4.1
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 Founders has arrived in Ontario with 6 new beers and after trying them all, we need more of these in Ontario. Backwoods Bastard is a barrel aged Dirty Bastard and the result is a great beer. A dark rust colour with a decent sized cap. Aroma is sweet malt, berries, molasses, and bourbon. Flavour is a beautiful mixture of sweet malt/molasses balanced by a hint of alcohol. Great beer. |

337 | Founders Centennial IPA | United States | IPA | 4.1
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 A well done IPA using the Centennial hop. An amber brew with a hint of murkiness and an off-white cap. Lots of piney notes and citrusy hops in the aroma with a touch of caramel. Well balanced flavour between the citrus and the caramel. Nothing too overpowering. |

338 | Founders Dirty Bastard Scotch Ale | United States | Scottish Ale | 4.4
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 The cream of the crop from Michigan has arrived at the LCBO, and this is one of those brews I could drink all day every day until I die. Dark amber, slightly hazed, and a generous off-white cap. Sweet malty aroma with hints of molasses, figs, and smoke. Sweetness in the flavour is nicely balanced with some herbally hoppy bitterness. Great beer. |

339 | Founders Pale Ale | United States | American Pale Ale | 4.1
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9 A great refreshing American Pale Ale that we just don't see in these parts with any regularity. A golden pour, clear with orange hues and a huge white head that lingers a while. Aroma is certainly hoppy with hints of citrus and caramel. Flavour is great with a nice balance between caramel sweetness and citrusy bitterness. An excellent session beer. |

340 | Founders Porter | United States | Porter | 4.4
Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9 A most excellent porter. Nice black body topped by a brown head that lasts for days. Roasted malt with the usual suspect aromas.....coffee, cholcolate, and vanilla. Flavour is a balance of roasted maltiness and a hint of sweet chocolate. Did I mention it was a most excellent porter? |

341 | Beer Academy Wee Heavy | Canada | Scottish Ale | 3.4
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 I've been sitting on this one a few months now and thought I would finally crack 'er open and give her a try. A brown pour with black edges, thin brown head. Nothing remakable. You could tell from the odour that this was going to be a sweet beer. Dark fruit, molasses and butterscotch. A tad sweet on the tongue as well, butterscotch, molasses, and fruit. Not very well balanced but drinkable nonetheless. |

342 | Mad and Noisy Sunny and Share | Canada | Saison | 3.9
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 THis was a pretty refreshing alcoholic beverage. The people at Creemore and the Mad and Noisy team seem to have an idea what they're doing. A yellow-orange pour, decent head, and some effervescence provide the visual appearance. A little bit of funk and yeast and a lot of citrus provide the aromatic backdrop for this beer. The flavour is an easy drinking lemony flavour with yeast, funk, and grains thrown in for good measure |

343 | Mad and Noisy Hops and Bolts India Pale Lager | Canada | Lager | 3.7
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 If you take away the colour (poured a dark pink grapefruit colour) then this is one bad ass beer. A lot of citrusy hops, some malt, and spices make up the aroma. The be all and end all of this beer is the hoppy flavour found here that you can't find in other lagers, combined with the slight spiciness. A great lager! |

344 | 8 Wired Hopwired IPA | New Zealand | IPA | 4.3
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 The first of several 8 Wired beers that Ontario is expected to see over the next couple of years. This one ia a clouded orange gold with a large frothy head. Lots of tropical fruit and citrus in the aroma, some herbal hops, and spices round out the aroma. Flavour is similar to the aroma with a tropical punch in the face flavour. I would certainly try this again if it comes back. |

345 | 8 Wired Saison Sauvin | New Zealand | Saison | 4.0
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 One thing is certain, the graphic designer at 8 Wired is pushed all that hard to come up with new designs. This is the hoppiest saison I can recall. A golden pour with a bit of cloudiness and a large white head. The tropical fruitiness of the Nelson Sauvin hops bites through notes of pine and apples. The flavour is a little more rounded with the fruitiness balancing out the yeastiness. |

346 | 3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze (Armand & Tommy) | Belgium | Gueuze | 4.0
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 6 A recent one off available in Ontario for a whopping $22.80 a bottle. Thankfully a friend of mine spent the money and decided to split it with me. It pours darker than a lot gueuzes, a cloudy light brown colour to be exact. Head is white, and larger than expected. Funk is the name of the game in the aromatic department, wood chips, more funk. Flavour is funky lemons with a definite puckering moment. It smells like a great gueuze, it tastes like a great gueuze, but it's well overpriced, even if it a rare one off. |

347 | Renaissance Craftsman Oatmeal Chocolate Stout | New Zealand | Oatmeal Stout | 3.8
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 A very dark brown beer with black edges, and a huge frothy brown head that stocks around until the end. Coffee, chocolate, and molasses can be noticed in the aroma with a little nuttiness. Flavour is on the sweet side for the style with the molasses and chocolate being the dominant forces on the tongue. Would have been better had it been a bit heavier |

348 | Renaissance Discovery | New Zealand | American Pale Ale | 3.4
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 At 4.5%, this is kind of weak for an APA, but I thought I would give it a try anyway. A dark gold pour, slightly cloudy, with a thin white cap fills the glass. The cascade hops are definitely noticeable in the aroma along with citrus and grassy malt. Flavour lacks the hoppish bite one comes to expect from a well made APA, but there are still enough notes of grapefruit and caramel to keep the imbiber interested. |

349 | Renaissance Elemental Porter | New Zealand | Porter | 3.9
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 This is their prize winning porter, and while it's very good, it's not a beer that I would die for. A blackish-brown pour is topped by a thin dark brown creamy head. Burnt wood, butterscotch, coffee and roasted malt make up the aroma. Flavour is neither too sweet, or harshly bitter, combining the coffee and butterscotch flavours into a well balanced beer. |

350 | Renaissance Marlborough Pale Ale | New Zealand | Imperial IPA | 3.7
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 This pours a clear amber colour with a small tan ring for a cap. Probably the reddest and clearest DIPA I've ever had. Aroma contains quite a bit of pine with a backdrop of alcohol, grapefruit, and peppery spices. Flavour is caramel, grapefruit, and spices. While you can smell the alcohol, it can't really be tasted. |
