526 | Wellington Silver Wheat Ale | Canada | American Wheat | 1.8
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3 This beer is in the running for the worst American Wheat style I have tried. It just isn’t that good. It is a pale straw colour with a weak white head. Aroma is metallic in nature, some weak wheat and barley notes, and I’ve yet to notice a hop. Flavour is a hit mess of off-flavours that are inconsistent with wheat beers. |

527 | Wellington Trailhead Lager | Canada | Lager | 2.6
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 Wellington is not known for their lagers, and this is an ugly beer bottle. A clear golden body with a small white head stares at me in the glass. Aroma is weak grass, some floral hops, and not much else. Flavour is very grainy, almost no hops cut through until the very end. |

528 | Wellington Upside IPA | Canada | IPA | 3.7
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 Juicy IPAs are the latest in the IPA canon of beers, replacing the prior fads of Session, Black, and American. A reddish gold body, some haze, and a weak off-white head make up the appearance. The nose senses grass and fruit right off the start, and upon closer examination, there is yeast. Flavour is very citrusy, not like a breakfast juice, but certainly juicier than most traditional west coast IPAs |

529 | Wellington Welly One Off: Chocolate Milk Stout | Canada | Imperial Stout | 4.2
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8 This was a great beer, almost like chocolate milk and alcohol. Everything about this beer says chocolate. It looks like chocolate milk in a glass, the strongest component of the aroma is milk chocolate and the most dominant flavour on the tongue is milk chocolate. Wellington did well with this beer. |

530 | Wellington Welly One Off: Terrestrial India Brown Ale | Canada | American Black Ale | 3.5
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 This came in a black silver can with only a sticker. What’s up with that? A solid mahogany coloured brew with a creamy light tan coloured head. Nutty malt, roasted malt, and caramel dominate the olfactory senses although there is some chocolate notes in the flavour. Not a bad beer at all |

531 | Wernesgrüner Pils | Germany | Bohemian / Czech Pilsener | 3.6
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 When I was younger (the 1970s), there was nothing better than a good german pils. Partly because it was better than Molson, Labatts, and Carling O’Keefe and partly because we didn’t know any better. Every once in a while I like to revisit the classic Pils such as Bitburger, Wernesgruner, etc. A nice clear golden pour with a frothy white head, just as you would expect from a German beer. Very grainy aroma and a nicely balanced flavour with the malt backed by some bitter hops. Always good, but no longer the world beaters they used to be. |

532 | Westvleteren Abt 12 | Belgium | Abbey Quadrupel | 5.0
Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 10 | Mouthfeel: 10 | Flavor: 10 | Overall: 10 The so-called Holy Grail of brews. I'm not sure it's as good as their cousin's abbey quadrupel down the street at Brouwerij St. Bernard, nonetheless, it's a mighty fine brew worthy of the acclaim it's been accorded. An excellent sampling of the finest trappist ales one can buy (even if you have to jump on a plane and go to a conference in Belgium to get some). |

534 | Weyerbacher Double Simcoe IPA | United States | Imperial IPA | 3.1
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 If this was just an IPA, it would be a great beer, but it falls short on the 'Imperial' nature. A murky orange-gold pour with a thin creamy light tan head with a citrusy hop aroma, some spices, and some sweet malt. The flavour is a good bitter citrusy tone but not too strong. I could have used more bitterness for the 'Imperial' to be taken seriously |

535 | Whiprsnapr Root of Evil Pre-prohibition Lager | Canada | California Common / Steam | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 You have to like the honesty with this brew. They tell you up front that they use flaked corn in the brewing process, so it is no surprise that you get some notes of corn in both the aroma and flavour. It’s a dark metallic gold colour, quite clear, and is topped by a small white cap. There is some smokiness in the air along with some citrusy hops, grains, and hints of corn. The flavour brings both the corn and smokiness more to the front. Not bad, but I feel sorry for pre-prohibition drinkers if this was a steady diet of what was around. |

536 | Whistler Bear Paw Honey Lager | Canada | Pale Lager | 2.8
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 6 When a brewer advertises honey in a lager or an ale, I expect to be able to ascertain a hint of sweetness somewhere, anywhere, but in this beer….not here. A very dark gold pour, the beer is topped by a thin white cap that doesn’t stick around long enough to get your name. Lots of grains on the nose with some floral and nutty hints, kind of like some honey browns I.ve tried. The flavour is decent, but the balance between the grains and the bitter hops would have been better served by the inclusion of honey. |

537 | Whistler Lost Lake Unfiltered IPA | Canada | IPA | 3.1
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 The brewery describes this beer as having 75 IBU, but I didn’t find it bitter. It’s a murky amber coloured beer with a weak off-white head, and plenty of effervescence. Citrus and grains dominate the aroma with the flavour being a mild hop finish that come after a biscuit malt front. Not a bad beer, but not something I would buy over and over again. |

538 | Whistler Paradise Valley Grapefruit Ale | Canada | Blonde Ale | 3.0
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 There are a lot of IPAs which use different varieties of hops to produce big bold grapefruity notes. This beer uses grapefruit instead and less aromatic hop varieties. In the end, the grapefruit notes aren’t as powerful as the name suggests. In the end, you get a golden coloured beer with a white cap and slight haze that has a very grainy aroma and a very bland blonde ale flavour. |

539 | Whistler Powder Mountain Lager | Canada | Pale Lager | 3.0
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 This is a very bland lager beer. I’m sure it uses only the finest mountain water, and only the choicest Canadian malts and choices hops, but in the end you end up with a pale gold grainy lager that offers nothing to distinguish it from the dozens (or hundreds) of other lagers tried. |

540 | Whistler Whiskey Jack Ale | Canada | Amber Ale | 3.0
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 A light rust coloured beer, quite clear, and topped with a nice white creamy head. Grains, light caramel, and floral hops dominate the nasal cavity while the tongue trips over sweet caramel notes and a bitter hop finish. This is a bere that you drink it and immediately forget you just had it and it leaves no real impression |

541 | Whitewater Brewing KLR 93 | Canada | Kölsch | 3.0
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 Named after Doug Gilmour, an NHL Hall of Famer who shouldn’t be, but that story is for another time. This is a kolsch. Not my favourite style. This is a very clear beer, pale yellow with a foamy white head. No head retention whatsoever though. Cereal notes dominate the flavour and the aroma with a hint of floral hops to keep it somewhat interesting |

542 | Whitewater Brewing Legion Lager | Canada | Lager | 3.8
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 Craft lagers are a finicky bunch. They claim to be adjunct free, but they don’t always taste that way. This one tastes adjunct free, and is pretty good for a ‘lager’. A dark straw coloured beer with a thin white foamy head greets the eyes while the nostrils are tempted with notes of light floral hops and cereal malts. The tongue is greeted with hints of cereal, and spicy hops. Well done. |

543 | Whitewater Brewing Midnight Stout | Canada | Oatmeal Stout | 3.4
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 The beer appears a little on the light side for a stout. More of a dark brown than a black and the head is more of an off-white colour than a tan. The aroma is typical with roasted malt and cocoa with some underlying coffee hints. Flavour leans towards the bitter end of the spectrum. A decent tasting stout that could use some work on its’ appearance |

544 | Woodhouse Hibiscus Raspberry Sour | Canada | Wild Ale | 1.7
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3 Had this at the brewery, and I didn't have the heart to tell them how bad it is because the owner couldn't stop raving about it. It's an overcarbonated mess. Cherry red in colour, head is fleeting, notes of tart raspberries and yeast weak at best. Very watery, and flavour is minimal, but puckering. |

545 | Woodhouse India Pale Ale | Canada | IPA | 3.5
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 Having been to the brewery a couple of times and been very disappointed in their stuff, I was kind of surprised that this was quite good. It's a dark gold pour, some haze, maybe even a floaty or two. I smell a lot of elements in this such as cereal, orange rind, and papaya. The flavours meld together nicely making this a nice drinking beer. |

546 | Woodhouse Lager | Canada | Vienna / Amber Lager | 2.7
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 Wow, an Ontario brewer that mislabels their cans....what a concept. The can says 'lager' which could be anything bottom fermented I suppose. It's a copper colour with a long lasting off-white head. Aroma doesn't match what I see as I would expect caramel or light toast but it's cereal, yeast, and light hops. The flavour is the same as the aroma with little to no caramel or roast making me wonder where the colour comes from. |

547 | Yanjing Beer | China | Pale Lager | 1.6
Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3 Like a lot of stuff from China, one has to wonder whether this beer is a Bud/Miller/Coors knockoff because it’s really bad. The beer is a very light gold in colour with little to no head. Lots of adjuncts in the aroma and the flavour make Yanjing a very bad beer. |

548 | Young's Double Chocolate Stout | United Kingdom | Chocolate Stout | 5.0
Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 10 | Mouthfeel: 10 | Flavor: 10 | Overall: 10 Recently a few friends and I did a taste test on several Chocolate Stouts, and this was the winner by far. A great beer with some great colour, great aromas of coffee and chocolate, and a huge whallop of flavour to back it up. A perfect level of bitterness. |

549 | Zywiec | Poland | Lager | 2.1
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 They say you need to try everything under the sun in order top appreciate it. Well, I tried Zywiec, and I didn't appreciate it. It poured a clear pale straw yellow in colour with a huge white head. Lots of corn and sweet malt in the aroma, not much in the way of hops. The taste was very typical of Polish lagers, a tad sweet for me. |
