301 | Hoegaarden Original White Ale | Belgium | Witbier | 3.5
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 A classic witbier, quite possibly the original. This beer pours a hazed light yellow colour with a huge bubbly white cap. The aroma is wheat, coriander, and yeast. The flavour is sweet wheat malt, and finishes with a spicy bitter finish. Very refreshing, but nothing real exciting here. |

302 | Hofbrau Munchen Kindl Weissbier (Hefe Weizen) / Hofbräu Munchen Kindl Weissbier (Hefe Weizen) | Germany | Hefeweizen | 3.8
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 part of the 2013 LCBO Summer Release. A hazy golden pour with a generous white head. The aroma has notes of clove, banana, and wheat....maybe a little more clove than most. The flavour is slightly sweet, the wheat and spices certainly come through. Very good Hefe |

303 | Hop City Barking Squirrel Lager | Canada | Vienna / Amber Lager | 2.0
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 Gag me with a spoon....please. Hop City Brewing is a wholly owned subsidiary of Moosehead, but they want you to believe that this is craft (when it is actually crap) so they don't put the Moosehead affiliation anywhere on the can. It's a very weak colour for a Vienna, and the aroma and taste both have skunkiness in them. Remember, this is craP, not craFT. |

304 | Houblon Chouffe Dobbelen IPA Tripel | Belgium | Abbey Tripel | 4.4
Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 Part of the 2013 LCBO Summer Release. A huge frothy white head sits atop a cloudy golden pour of beer with lots of floaties. Looks good. Yeast, citrus, and spices dominate the aroma with the herbal hop notes more of an afterthought. The flavour is undeniably tripel-like with yeast and spices coming out on top. Great beer. |

305 | Howe Sound King Heffy Imperial Hefeweizen | Canada | Hefeweizen | 3.8
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 Part of the 2013 LCBO Summer Release. Sometimes I question a brewer's sanity when everything they send you is in 1 litre bottles, and is an imperial something or other. This seems to be the modus operandi of Howe Sound. Beer is a hazed golden orange in colour, head is slightly off-white, but thick and lasts. The wheat, banana, and cloves are certainly apparent in the aroma. Maybe some alcohol as well. The flavour is very Germanic, wheat, yeast, and spices.....but there is a definite alcohol presence as well. |

306 | Howe Sound Pumpkineater Imperial Pumpkin Ale | Canada | Spiced Beer | 2.7
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 6 First of all, what's with the 1 litre bottle? They must know it's too much to drink because it comes with a flip top stopper. I didn't really dig this beer. Felt very acidic on the tongue. Bottle date is August so unless it went off quickly, I'm avoiding this one. Not worth it buying another bottle to see if maybe thre first was flawed as I'm not into pumkin beers. |

307 | Ilkley The Mayan | United Kingdom | Chocolate Stout | 3.4
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 I clearly did not read the bottle carefully, especially the part where it says 'chipotle'. I admit, I was taken very much by surprise by that. A dark brown pour, a littlen on the thin side with a chocolate brown cap. Coffee and chocolate dominate the aroma. The flavour is dominated by notes of coffee, roasted malt, and nuts...and then comes tyhe chipotle pepper, chugging down your throat like a French bullet train. |

308 | James Ready 5.5 | Canada | Pale Lager | 2.1
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 One of the telltale signs of a macro brewer is the inability to brew any beer greater than 5% without the alcohol becoming noticeable in the flavour. James Ready 5.5 is a perfect example of a beer that has such a pronounced alcohol presence in the aroma and flavour that only a 16 year old buys it on his prom night. Makes you wonder how these ‘accomplished’ brewers are unable to accomplish the simple task of brewing a 5.5% beer while every craft brewer on the planet thinks that 5.5% is ‘light’. |

311 | Jever Pilsener | Germany | Bohemian / Czech Pilsener | 3.6
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 A recent find at the provincial liquor outlet and featured in the glossy monthly magazine. Canned, and pours into the glass as a clear light gold liquid. Cereal malt dominates the aromatics with ample hoppy tones. The flavour is nicely balanced between with malty sweetness and hoppy bitterness. Not bad for $2 beer. |

312 | John Labatt Classic | Canada | Lager | 2.1
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 Here's a beer from my younger days. Always thought of as a 'premium product' when looking back it was nothing more than overpriced swill. I still have a case of empties in the garage from 1989. This was a bit more flavourful than a 'Blue' or a '50' but the base recipe is the same. |

314 | John Sleeman Presents Fine Porter | Canada | Porter | 2.4
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 For a brewery that boasts as much as Sleeman does, I would expect their products to go above and beyond, but unfortunately that fall as flat as the macros. This is a medium to dark brown pour with a light brown head that laces well. Toasted malt and caramel make up the bulk of the aroma with light hints of dark chocolate joining those to make up the flavour. Nothing that you need to try in this lifetime. |

315 | Jopen Hoppenbier | Netherlands | Belgian Ale | 3.6
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 This beer is older than I am. A recipe dating back to 1501 it’s a Dutch originated Belgian Ale currently back in Dutch territory. It appears as a cloudy light yellow liquid with a weak bubbly white head. The aroma has some tripel characteristics to it with notes of yeast, honey, grains, and citrus. The flavour has a definite spicy and citrusy hop note to it with the malt in the background. |

316 | Kasteel Bruin | Belgium | Belgian Strong Ale | 4.2
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 Purchased at the Liquor Control Board of Ontario Store. The beer pours a solid dark brown colour with red edges, and a light tan coloured cap. The aroma is roasted malt, dark fruits, weak caramel, and yeast. The flavour mirrors the aroma with the dark fruit and roasted malt evident up front and a bitter yeasty finish. Quite enjoyable. |

317 | Keltek Golden Lance | United Kingdom | Blonde Ale | 2.6
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 This is a recent purchase from the beer store monopoly in Ontario. It follows the CAMRA doctrine, yet I have it in a bottle…try that on for size (where’s my cask?!?!?!?!). A golden yellow pour with a bubbly white head that says ‘see ya later’ after a few seconds. Typical British aromatic notes with grass, inoffensive hop notes, and yeast. Flavour is rather dull with a decent balance between bland grains and bland hops. Sometimes I think that ‘Real Ale’ is not for me. |

318 | Kokanee | Canada | Lager | 2.3
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 I've tried this beer several times over the years but just getting around to rating it now. It is a transparent beerl golden-orange in colour, with a frothy white head. Lots of garins in the nose with hints of herbal hops. Flavour is metallic grains and acidic hops. Not worth trying again....but I know it will happen. |

319 | Labatt 50 | Canada | Blonde Ale | 2.7
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 Shares the title of 'your father's beer' with Molson Export....all depends on whether you are a Labatt man or a Molson man. I'm an equal opportunity imbiber. 50 is the better of the two with a more distinct hop character, and less sweetness. I'll choose 50 over Export any day. |

323 | Labatt Crystal | Canada | Pale Lager | 1.5
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 2 | Overall: 3 This beer has been around since time began, but I don't know anybody who drinks it. There was a marketing push in the mid 80s while I was finishing University but aside from that, the only time I think of it is when I scan the list at the beer store and pass it by. Recently, I actually stopped and ordered. I'll never make that mistake again. Looks and smells like Labatt Blue, but has a strong gamey flavour that makes it difficult to swallow. |

325 | Labatt Genuine Draft | Canada | Pale Lager | 1.4
Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 2 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3 Another joke of a beer from Canada's largest brewer. Whenever there's a trend, Labatt was always the first to jump on board (and Molson soon afterwards). The joke in Canada is that draught is simply watered down (Blue/50/Canadian/Export/Bud/Bud Light/Coors Light)........but this would qualify as it's very thin. |
