Dark brown draught, light brown cap, good lacing. Roasted malt, dark chocolate, and coffee comprise the aroma. Palate is full and rich. Flavor is rich dark chocolate, some caramel, and a bitter coffee ending.

I guess I'm not a stout girl. After embarking on this hobby, I was able to secure several specimens of the top beers from around the country. I've drank about 500 different beers in the last 8 months, and I have a couple hundred more in my boyfriend's beer fridge. This brew (and that applies to it's coffee like features) is very dark, and has the thickness of a V-8 as opposed to a Bud Light. The aroma is bitter coffee. Bitter, bitter, bitter. It rolled on the tongue without any carbonation. The flavor was also very bitter. I did not like.

I'm not sure why all my California friends brought me stouts, is that all they make in California? Again, I'm so not a stout woman. This beer is blacker than the night. The aroma is strong roasted malt, some bitter coffee, and some sugar. It is very smooth on the tongue, no sharp carbonation. The taste is okay, not as bad as other stouts I've tried.

I've been told that this is a very rare beer, and that it's about past due. I can't agree more. Coca-cola brown in color with some viscosity to it. Aroma is bitter chocolate and vanilla. Flavour is dry and bitter. My friend loved it and called it heaven. I wish I couls say the same.

The second last beer on Impy Stout night, but should have been the first. Very bland all around. It's a black beer with a brown head. The aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, and toffee. The flavor was slightly sweet for my liking....I expect more bitterness from an Impy Stout

The last Impy Stout from Impy Stout night. Far and away the best of the lot. Very black with a chocolate milk coloured head. The aroma was roasted malt, caramel, and anise. The taste was devine...not too sweet and not too bitter. The anise comes out well in the flavor.

This is a powerful brew, but the alcohol aroma is too strong. It dominates the roasted malt and coffee aromas, and the sweetness in the taste is over the top.

My husband went halfway across the country to get this stuff with friends. It was good, but not overly great. I think the 1 day a year adds to the hype. A blackish pour with a huge whallop of roasted coffee and malt aroma. A little on the thick side. Tastes of roasted malt and coffee, and very bitter.

Great label - wish the beer lived up to the label though. A beautiful looking stout from the DFH clan. Black as night. Nice coffee and chocolate aroma with a little vanilla. Tastes sweet and bitter, but could be better.

Just an average stout with nothing to really make it stand out. A bit on the expensive side if truth be told. Motor oil black with a tan head and a lot of coffee in the taste and smell. A bit plain.

A nice Impy stout. A midnight black pour with a thick brown head that lingers all teh way down the glass. Lots of roasted malt in the aroma with planty of hints of coffee, molasses, and plums. Starts off sweet with the fruit and molasses hints but gives way to a bitter coffee finish. While it was good, it wasn't oustanding. Doesn't taste any different than a lot of other Imperial stouts.

I didn't like this any better than the regular version. The bitterness just overwhelms any flavour I've been able to find in other stouts. I've come to enjoy stouts, just not this one.

I find Canadian beers to be hit and miss (more miss) but this one was certainly a hit. A lot of complexity packed into this without the bitterness associated with some others. Good coffee anc chocolate balance with some vanilla and molasses hints.

2010 and 2011 vintages. A decent stout that relies too much on the barrel and not enough on the beer. Take away the barrel and the beer is rather a simple stout with coffee, chocolate and vanilla flavours. Slightly thin as well.

Loved this beer. Poured a beautiful ebony into the glass with shimmering edges and creamy head. Syrupy on the tongue. Lots of coffee, dark chocolate and roasted goodness in the aroma while the flavour is decently complex with bitter dark chocolate and coffee flavours rounded out by sweet molasses and liquorice.

2009, 2010, and 2011 vintages. most of the Canadian beers I have tried and have been rather 'blah', this was an exception. It also seems to get better with age as the 2009 vintage was scrumptious. A black pour into the McAusland tulip with a huge creamy brown head. Nuts, roasted malt, coffee, and vanilla filled the air. Full bodied and creamy. Lots of roasted flavour as well, balanced by vanilla and bourbon. Very well done.

I was really hoping to like this beer, but again, it was thinner than I was hoping, not as chocolatey as I was hoping, and a little too boozy for my liking. Put those together and it's a hard beer to love.

The best Imperial Stout I've had in ages. A nice dark stout, not quite black. Excellent vanilla and roasted coffee aromas, with some dark chocolate to keep it interesting. The flavor mimics the aroma with the bitter chocolate finish being delightful.

A very dark brown pour, opaque, and topped with a light brown creamy head. The head sticks to the glass as the beer goes down. Roasted malt, coffee, and licorice hit the nose hard with lighter hints of hops and vanilla. Taste is bitter coffee, maybe a touch of chocolate, and a bitter hop finish. Excellent for the style.

Was not impressed with this offering. Not as hoppy as I would have liked and the appearance was notihng more than average. A disappointing beer from a brewer I'm fond of.

Found on tap at the Ginger Man. Another decent beer from these Texas folks. The color is darker than expected, but the pineyness was definitely present alnog with some malt. Far from outstanding, but quite quaffable as the bartender said.

An amber pour, mainly clear, topped with a white head that is foamy and lingers. Aroma is grass and citrus, with some weak pine scents as well. Average mouthfeel. Flavor is typical with strong pine and citrus notes leading to a hoppy aftertaste.

Another beer that is nothing to write home about. I tend to like reddish colored beers but not this one. The flavor was not all that intense in my opinion.

I guess this is an alright beer. I tried it recently to see what the fuss was all about and I'll have to try it again because it was nothing special. A bit watery for my liking.

A weak watery Irish Ale. It pours a dark red color, almost no head, not quite clear. Old stale malt is all I can smell, some weak floral smells round out the aroma. It tastes very weak....watered down malt, and a finish that isn't so much bitter as it is a releif. Definitely something to avoid.
