6951 Thor Classic Denmark Dunkel / Dark Lager 3.0

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

Draught at the Randers Regnskov café. Served ice cold, like Danish draught lagers normally are. And most Danish beer places have no "rain forest" air temperature, even in summer! This makes a fair rating difficult, as the icy temperature of the liquid will mask most qualities or flaws the beer might have. Well, this one was drinkable like other Danish "Classic" beers, but nothing really stood out. Some caramel malts, nice deep amber to brown colour. Average at the best.

6952 Ceres Top Pilsner Denmark Lager 2.5

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

This is a typical Danish pilsener, average at the best. Easily forgettable. I don't know if Top Pilsner possibly will be phased out by Bryggerigruppen in favour of Royal Pilsner

6953 Ceres Royal Stout Denmark Baltic Porter 4.2

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

The brewery claims this one to be "the best porter in the world". I don't think so - but it sure is a very decent, smooth and rounded Baltic porter. Fairly sweet, but not too much. A beer I always come back to when in Denmark. The best from Ceres / Bryggerigruppen.

6954 Ceres Royal Selection Denmark Helles / Dortmunder 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

This is a fairly good good strong lager, carries its high ABV well. Good head, pleasant aroma, powerful flavour. Beats Carlsberg's Elephant beer. But a ROYAL selection?? Oh well, I've never been a monarchist anyway...

6955 Ceres Royal Pilsner Denmark Bohemian / Czech Pilsener 2.8

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

380 ml green plastic bottle, in Denmark. Typical average Danish industrial pale lager, but this one allegedly has no adjuncts. Drinkable. There’s really not much more to add.

6956 Ceres Royal Export Denmark Lager 3.2

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6

Not bad, but Carlsberg Sort Guld is a better alternative in this ABV category of Danish golden lagers. Very popular in the "duty free" trade. Rerate bottle: Good head, acceptable flavour, not outstanding.

6957 Ceres Royal Classic Denmark Vienna / Amber Lager 3.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

380 ml green plastic bottle, in Denmark. ABV was 4.8%. Amber colour. Vienna style (more or less). Flavour has some malts and hints of caramel. Decent but not very interesting.

6958 Ceres Bering Bryg Denmark Spiced Beer 2.9

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 5

(33 cl bottle, in Denmark.) Good head, beautiful dark brown colour, pleasant aroma, flavour and aftertaste are dominated by an overwhelming sweetness. Too sweet for me.

6959 Corona Extra Mexico Pale Lager 1.9

Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4

Over-priced pale Mexican beer with a silly lime-slice gimmick to attract stock-broker wannabes and other idiots. No reason to stick with this one. Pass.

6960 Mythos Greece Pale Lager 3.1

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6

Yes, like many others I had this while on holiday in Greece... and found it quite acceptable. Probably the best(??) Greek pale lager. However, I don't feel any need to have it imported to Norway.....

6961 Mort Subite Kriek Belgium Fruit Lambic 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

375 ml corked bottle (champagne style). Enormous thick head, red colour, aroma is cherries (no surprise!) and red wine vinegar. Flavour is not nearly as sweet as Lindemans Kriek, quite dry really. Light bodied, but lots of cherries of course. Refreshing. Initially a little peppery bite. Moderately acidic.

6962 Aldaris Porteris Latvia Baltic Porter 3.9

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

(500 ml bottle). Dark ruby colour. Good light tan head. Interesting vinous aroma of raisins, blackberries, ensilage, seaweed and some coffee. Full, rich and smooth flavour - but unfortunately too sweet. Like a good cup of coffee with too much sugar. Syrup battles with a nice roastiness in the aftertaste. Still, an interesting Latvian aquaintance - well worth sampling.

6963 Sinebrychoff Koff IV B Extra Strong Beer Finland Strong Lager 3.4

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

(Draught at Helsinki Airport). Golden colour, low head. Dangerously drinkable strong lager. Fruity and slightly perfumed aroma. While strong pale or golden lagers are not my favourite "style" in general, this one was not too bad.

6964 Sinebrychoff Koff III Finland Lager 2.8

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 6

An average Finnish lager. Tasted good on the sundeck of the Helsinki - Tallinn ferry though (on tap), but then most light lagers / pilseners go down easily when the sun is shining!

6965 Sinebrychoff Karhu III Finland Lager 3.0

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

(500 ml can). Typical pale golden pilsener colour, good thick head, nice lacing. There is nothing offensive in aroma or flavour - just too little of everything. "Clean" taste as far as there is any flavour at all - with a little more hops, this could have been a reasonably good lager.

6966 Sinebrychoff Porter Finland Baltic Porter 4.9

Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 10 | Flavor: 10 | Overall: 10

(Bottle). Pitch black porter, even held against the light. Tan head. Complex aroma of coffee, cocoa, dried fruits, ensilage(!) and oak. The full and rich flavour has coffee, bitter chocolate and loads of roasted maltiness. Not too sweet, just the right bitterness in the aftertaste. This must be a world class porter!

6967 Leffe Radieuse Belgium Belgian Strong Ale 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7

33 cl bottle, bought in Denmark. ABV was 8.2%. Large thick head, clear reddish brown colour. Surprisingly weak aroma, but what there is, is pleasant: Ripe and dried fruits, just a faint hint of barnyard. Flavour has malts and spices and a great deal of alcoholic warmth.

6968 Leffe Tripel Belgium Abbey Tripel 4.0

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

(330 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. ABV was 8.5%.) Hazy golden colour, large lasting head. Strong sweetish yeasty and fruity aroma. Flavour is sweet but not cloying, yeasty and spicy (cloves), reasonably malty with a decent hoppy bitterness which leaves a pleasant aftertaste. Not a bad triple, but like others of this style the yeast is a bit too dominant to be "perfect" in my book. I won’t mind having another one, though. You’re buying? Thank you very much, mate!

6969 Theakston Cool Cask United Kingdom Bitter 3.3

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6

Cask conditioned in England. Pumped through coolers not normally used for cask ales. Apparently an effort from Theakston to attract cool people through cool ale. They can do better than that. Oh yeah, it's smooth and drinkable, but I'd prefer an XB or a Best Bitter at normal cask temperatures, thank you.

6970 Theakston Mild United Kingdom Mild Ale 3.4

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Cask conditioned in Northern England. Milds are really not my definite favourite style among cask ales - most of them are, well, too mild.... However, this one is probably about as good as a standard mild can get. (Well, some micro breweries make them better!) Smooth and easy drinking.

6971 Theakston Best Bitter United Kingdom Bitter 3.7

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Cask conditioned in Northern England. Many British raters seem to hate this beer, but I found it as a very drinkable standard session bitter, with a decent maltiness and acceptable hops. Dusty finish. Maybe not a true masterpiece, but certainly not bad from a well kept cask.

6972 Theakston XB United Kingdom Bitter 4.0

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Cask conditioned in Northern England. Malty aroma, flavour is smooth, full & malty with a sufficient hoppy bite to make it interesting. Dry hoppy finish. A very nice pint. The brewery is now again family owned. Rerate: 500 ml bottle, thanks to my beerpal Egil. ABV is 4.5%. Brown to copper colour, moderate but lasting white head. Pleasant aroma, hoppy / fruity with notes of berries, also notes of toffee. The flavour has a nice balance between the malts and hops, notes of berries again, typical Bramling Cross qualities. The pasteurised bottle has not quite the subtle character of the cask version (if well kept), but this is still a very enjoyable beer to drink.

6973 Tinkoff Krasnoe (Bock) Russia Bock 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

(33 cl bottle, bought in Denmark.) Deep amber colour, low head. Aroma is malty sweet with some caramel and hops. Flavour is again malty sweet, rounded and mellow, low bitterness. The best of the Tinkoff beers I’ve had so far.

6974 Tinkoff Temnoe (Porter) Russia Dunkel / Dark Lager 3.1

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6

(330 ml bottle, bought in Denmark.) Forget that they call this a porter - this is a dunkel, and as such middle of the road, if I’m being kind. Copper colour, moderate head, weak malty aroma, flavour is smooth and easily drinkable, malty sweet with next to none bitterness. There are better German (and Norwegian!) dunkels around - no need to export this from Russia.

6975 Abbaye des Rocs Brune Belgium Belgian Strong Ale 4.1

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

330 ml bottle, as Abbaye des Rocs Brune, bought at Pivni Galerie, Prague. Murky brown colour with floaties, enormous lingering head. Strong fruity aroma (cherries, prunes) with notes of leather, caramel and oak, hints of barnyard. Flavour is intensely oaky and malty with notes of smoke, dried fruits and spices. Alcohol is evident. Moderate sweetness, bitter and oaky aftertaste. Not for beginners this one.
