The aroma was a nice grainy aroma that screamed 'drink me!' It is smooth and crisp on the tongue with small hints of carbonation. The favour is crisp and clean with hints of grain. I will definitely try this again. |

603 | Zlatý Bažant / Zlaty Golden Pheasant | Slovakia | Bohemian / Czech Pilsener | 3.4
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 July 25, 2007
LCBO Outlet #255 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Main / Bronte)
500ml bottle
5.00% ABV
Bottled On: Unknown
$2.35
The beer poured a translucent gold colour, darker than most North American lagers. The head was quite large and quite dense but disappeared quickly leaving a little lacing on the side. The aroma is hoppy with some yeasty tinges. The mouthfeel is slightly thick with ample carbonation and medium-bodied. The taste is very much pilsener like, but not as good as some of the common Czech Pilseners in my opinion. |

605 | Christoffel Blond | Netherlands | Bohemian / Czech Pilsener | 3.4
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 August 12, 2007
LCBO Outlet #255 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Main / Bronte)
330ml bottle
6.00% ABV
Bottled On: Unknown
$2.70
I tried this beer on August 12, 2007 after purchasing from my local LCBO outlet. It poured a hazy gold colour with a small head into the glass. The bottle described the beer as 'double-hopped' but this was not detected in the aroma to any extent. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with mild carbonation. The flavour was slightly hoppy and mild.
Both the appearance and taste of this beer was more reminiscent of wheat beers than a Czech Style Pilsener. |

606 | Laško Zlatorog / Lasko Zlatorog | Slovenia | Bohemian / Czech Pilsener | 2.5
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 August 27, 2007
Smokeless Joe’s (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – 125 John Street)
500ml bottle
4.90% ABV
Bottled On: Unknown
$7.25
The beer poured a translucent gold into a glass with a loose white head which didn't last very long. There was some hints of malt in the aroma, but not a lot. The mouthfeel was thin, with mild carbonation, and slightly slippery, reminiscent of wheat beers. The flavour was also a bit on the grainy side. Not a beer I would go out of my way to order again, but it did knock another country off my list. |

625 | Scotch Irish Corporal's Bitter Brown Ale (Corporal Punishment) | Canada | Brown Ale | 3.7
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 330ml stubby bottle
4.3% ABV (as written on bottle)
Labelled as 'Corporal's Bitter Brown Ale'
I tried this beer on November 9, 2010 after purchasing from the Queen's Quay LCBO in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a hazy brownish gold with a thin white head (certainly not the rich mahogany colour described on the bottle). The aroma was grainy malt, ginger, and some floral hops. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was grainy malt, with citrusy hops, yeast, and spices...and I still have a ginger taste. I really enjoyed this beer. Appearance is marked down because brownish gold comes nowhere near mahogany! Had the side of the bottle not said 'mahogany.....it would have received a higher score! |
