426 | Struise Pannepot Grand Reserva Oak Aged | Belgium | Belgian Strong Ale | 4.9
Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 10 | Flavor: 10 | Overall: 10 PNP No. 4
2005 Vintage
330ml bottle
10% ABV
Best Before Date: November 30, 2012
Smokeless Joe (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
September 12, 2008
19.95
The beer poured a dark brown colour, with a thin light brown head which lasted throughout. The aroma was caramel malt, burnt sugar, some peppery spice, and anise. The mouthfeel was medium bodied, medium carbonated, and had a sharpness on the side of the tongue. The flavour was very sweet with hints of raw maple sugar, dark caramel malts, and some apples and pears. An excellent beer despite when the sweetness is considered. |

428 | Nickel Brook Green Light | Canada | Berliner Weisse | 3.2
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6 375ml draught
3.8% ABV
I tried this beer on July 20, 2012 at "Bar Volo" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a very hazed golden colour with a thick creamy white head which quickly dissipated. The aroma was tart fruit, funk, and some wheat. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with mild carbonation. The flavour was tart earthiness, funk, and wheat. It truly lives up to the billing of a tart hefeweizen. Not sure I want to try another one of the style. |

435 | Mill Street Ambre de la Chaudière | Canada | Biere de Garde | 3.2
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 341ml bottle
7.0% ABV
Milton LCBO Outlet #1 (Milton, Ontario, Canada)
October 13, 2013
This is an ugly looking beer. Looks like an unfiltered dark apple cider. It pours a very hazed golden-brown with no head. The aroma is yeast, apples (maybe the cider comment isn't off the mark) and some grains. I don't get any of the funk associated with Biere de Gardes. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour has the funk I was missing in the aroma, with yeasty notes, and hints of apple. |

436 | XO Beer | France | Biere de Garde | 3.8
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 10 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 7 August 17, 2007
Smokeless Joe’s (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – 125 John Street)
330ml bottle
8.00% ABV
Bottled On: Unknown
$14.25
The beer poured into a tulip glass a beautiful reddish brown colour with almost no head. Like Biegaman, my bottle was also marked as 8%. The aroma was cognac, malt, alcohol and burnt butterscotch. The mouthfeel was very very smooth with a medium body and some mild carbonation. The taste was very heavy on the cognac, and a little hint of fruit. I did feel the alcohol burn, and for a beer with an 8% abv, that's not good in my book. A little pricey at $14.25/bottle as well when I can visit some other places and get an Abbey Quadrupel for less. |
