2053 | Smithwick's Irish Ale | Ireland | Irish Ale | 2.7
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 6 June 1, 1990
Woolwich Arms, The (Guelph, Ontario, Canada – 176 Woolwich Street)
500ml bottle
5.00%
$4.70
After going almost 20 years without sampling this, I recently tried it on tap at a local Toronto eatery and found it to be an alright brew. The colour was a translucent brownish-red colour, with an off-white head that didn't stay long. The aroma was slightly malty and sweet but weak. The flavour was slightly malty at the start but became better as I got closer to the bottom. Like other ales I have tried it was thick on the tongue with little carbonation. This is one of those brews that when provided a list on tap...if I've previously tried them all.....ocassionally I'll pick this one. |

2058 | Clear Lake Brewing Session Ale | Canada | IPA | 2.7
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 473ml can
4.8% Abv
Canned On: February 28, 2018
Main / Bronte LCBO outlet (Milton,. Ontario, Canada)
August 11, 2018
$2.95
The beer pours a slightly hazed golden colour with a thin bubbly off-white head which does not last. The aroma is grainy malt and earthy hops and nothing else, a simple aroma. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is grainy malt with a weak hoppy finish. I know this beer is billed as a 'Session Ale' but everything about the aroma and flavour says pale lager, albeit a non-adjunct version of the style. |

2062 | Collective Arts Collective Project: Gose (Guava) | Canada | Gose | 2.7
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 5 473ml can
4.90% Abv
Canned On: September 12, 2018
LCBO # 255 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Main / Bronte)
December 1, 2018
$3.95
The beer pours a murky orange-gold colour with a generous white head that takes a while to dissipate. The aroma is Tuscan ham (yes, I said Tuscan ham), citrus, and yeast. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is very tart, so tart that I can’t recognize what the underlying fruit is. I swear I taste chopped Vidalia onions in this – and I hate onions. This is certainly not my favourite Collective Arts beer |

2068 | Mill Street Barley Wine | Canada | English Barleywine | 2.7
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 473ml can 11.0% ABV
Canned On: August 6, 2019
LCBO Outlet # 007 (Toronto, Ontario, Canada - Eglinton / Mt. Pleasant)
October 4, 2019
$6.95
The beer pours a translucent light rust colour with a thin tan coloured film for a head. The aroma is alcohol, honey, alcohol, yeast, more alcohol, some light grains, and even more alcohol. The switch from 10% to 11% isn’t going well in my opinion. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with below average carbonation. The flavour is all alcohol, with some hints of dark fruit sweetness. This takes me back to the first couple of barleywines I had, since then they’ve only gotten better but this will scare me off the style for a while. |

The aroma is very “Wink” like (for those who don’t know, Wink was a grapefruit flavoured soft drink in the 1970s and 80s) with some weak grains. No real hops that I can discern. The mouthfeel is light bodied, with average carbonation. The flavour is quite grainy, not a lot of grapefruit to be found. Still, add Alcool to a bottle of Wink, and this is the resulting child! |
