1801 | Innis & Gunn Don's Choice | United Kingdom | American Black Ale | 3.0
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 330ml bottle
6.2% ABV
Best Before: October 31, 2019
LCBO Outlet #010 (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Summerhill)
September 8, 2019
$3.85
The beer pours a translucent dark mahogany colour with a generous tan coloured head that lasts several minutes and creates a lot of lacing. The aroma is chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, and dish soap. I don’t detect any citrus, coconut, or rhubarb. So, not a typical Black IPA. Mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is more akin to a thin porter/stout as I’m not getting a whole ot of the rhubarb or coconut in this. This isn’t a black IPA to my mind, and not even a fruited stout/porter. Not something I would want to drink regularly. |

1802 | Left Field Brewery Big Train Zero IBU IPA | Canada | IPA | 3.0

The aroma is weak tropical fruit, cereal grains, musty hops. And yeast, The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is gross. The primary flavours are yeast, grains, and tropical fruits, but without the hoppy bitterness, it just doesn’t meld very well. |

The aroma is tropical citrus, grains, and yeast. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is tropical fruit and grass. There is nothing ‘pilsener’ about this beer, this is more of a juicy IPL. |

1805 | Whitewater Brewing Wild Bog Cranberry Sour | Canada | Wild Ale | 3.0
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 November 23, 2019
LCBO Outlet #010 (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Summerhill)
473ml can
6.0% ABV
Canned On: September 24, 2019
$3.25
First off, I want to say that there are too many wild ale/sour ales/goses being made by Ontario brewers. It needs to stop! The beer pours a highly hazed pinkish-gold with a very short lived white head. The aroma is yeast, grass, and tart cranberries. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is primarily on the tart side with some weak grains. While the flavour is tart, it doesn’t scream cranberry to me. |

1806 | Great Lakes Brewery Shinny Pants Session Stout | Canada | Stout | 3.0
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 473ml can
4.3% ABV
Canned On: November 19, 2019
LCBO Outlet #411 (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Yonge / Wellesley)
December 7, 2019
$3.00
The beer pours a solid black colour with a creamy short lived light brown cap. The aroma is roasted malt, light hints of coffee, and weak soy sauce and vanilla notes. I hope it tastes better than it smells. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is roasted malt, coffee, and chicoree with a weak bitter finish. For a 4.3% stout, it comes across as pretty weak. |

1807 | Nickel Brook Reserve Series Glory & Gold | Canada | Old Ale | 3.0
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 6 500ml bottle
9.50% ABV
Bottled On: November 24, 2017
LCBO Outlet #0457 (Toronto, Ontario, Canada - Yonge / Eglinton)
January 16, 2020
$9.95
The beer pours a translucent dark crimson colour with a light tan foamy head which leaves quite a bit of lacing. The aroma is tart fruit and bourbon. So far, not so good. There are also hints of burnt wood, vanilla, grains, and caramel. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour starts out with notes of alcohol and tart fruit, and finishes with an oily wood flavour on the tongue. I’m not a fan. |

1808 | Rickard's Red | Canada | Amber Ale | 3.0
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 June 3, 1995
Brass Taps (Guelph, Ontario, Canada – University of Guelph, University Centre)
341ml bottle
5.2% ABV
$0.00
The original review. A nice beer with a modicum of flavour. The colour is dark red-brown which looks very thick and the head varies. The aroma is non-descript compared to other beers, there are some slight malt and hop tinges, nothing overpowering. It has a lagery feel in the mouth which for me makes it a bit more palatable. The taste is a slightly sweet taste with a hint of malt. It tends to be a smooth brew which goes down quite well. I have recommended this to others.

2022 Re-Review
This is a re-review of a beer that I enjoyed immensely before becoming a beer hobbyist. This review is for the 473ml can purchased from one of the local LCBO outlets. The beer poured a translucent red colour with a 1/2 inch white head that did not stick around. The aroma is sweet caramel malt with some hoppish tones. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. The taste is stale sweet malt - and not much else. For swill - I still enjoy it. |

1809 | Molson Dry | Canada | Pale Lager | 3.0
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 September 29, 1994
Don Cherry’s Restaurant (Milton, Ontario, Canada)
341ml bottle
5.5% ABV
$2.85
This used to be a slightly better than average beer at an average price. First available in the early 90s when dry beer was all the rage. They have revised it in recent years with a slightly different recipe and a lower price. Originally advertised as a beer with no aftertaste. They lied. Molson Dry pours a light golden colour with little or no head. The aroma is pleasant to the nostrils, not overly powerful. The flavour and texture are very smooth. This is a beer that goes down easily......too easily. An old standby. |

1810 | John Labatt Classic | Canada | Lager | 3.0
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 341ml bottle
5.0% ABV
Bottled On: Unknown
University House Party
February 1, 1992
$1.00
This is an average beer, certainly not a classic. No longer as heavily marketed as it was in the early 90s, but then again, in Canada, it seems only Molson Canadian is marketed to any real extent any more....no more 'Me and the Boys and our 50, me and the boys and our beer'. Anyway, I had this beer in a near frozen state. The beer is a translucent pale gold colour which looks great in a glass. There was very little aroma, but what aroma there was, was slightly malty and pleasant. The mouthfeel was crisp with mild carbonation and the taste was mellow, but not watery in the least. Never really figured out why it was called 'classic' - but it certainly isn't as bad as Blue. |

1811 | Beck's | Germany | Lager | 3.0
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 330ml bottle
5.0% ABV
Guelph, Ontario, Canada
June 1, 1992
$1.50
I had heard many many great things about Beck's, so naturally I had to try one. Unfortunately, I was not able to add any great comments. This is just an alright beer. The colour is a nice translucent golden colour, the aroma was neither appealing or repulsive with a slight malty smell. The flavour was mild with some grassiness. The mouthfeel was smooth and crisp with just the right amount of carbonation. |

There was not a lot of aroma to speak of however. The taste was crisp with a metallic tinge to it. Nothing to write home about, but not one to avoid either. |

The aroma was slightly skunky and not at all appealing. As with a lot of lager/pale lager types, the mouthfeel was crisp and clean on the tongue with hints of carbonation. The taste was better than the smell with some malts and grass tones. |

The beer poured a reddish pink colour with a thin white head that stuck around. The aroma was sour raspberries and grainy malt. The mouthfeel was medium bodied and highly carbonated. Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 330ml
7.1% ABV
Milton LCBO Outlet #1 (Milton, Ontario, Canada)
July 17, 2009
The beer poured a translucent golden brown with red highlights, and a 1" thick foamy white head. Effervescence is apparent. The aroma is slightly sweet, there is a hint of oak, nutty malt, but no signs of whiskey. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with medium carbonation. The flavour unfortunately has a sour finish to it and has a hint of whiskey. The malt and oak are definitely evident as well. The beer looks great, but the taste doesn't match up in my opinion. |
