1759 | Exchange Brewery ∞ (Peppercorn Rye Saison) | Canada | Saison | 3.1
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 330ml draught
7.40% ABV (as written on menu)
Craft (Yonge Street, Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
October 4, 2018
$7.50
The beer pours a hazed light gold colour with a half-inch creamy white head which sticks around. The most prominent aromatic compound was the pepper followed by light fruit, grains, funk, and yeast. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was light fruit and funk with the pepper really noticeable on the back of the tongue. Light citrus notes and yeast were in the finish. This beer was a disappointment as I am still asking....WHERE'S THE RYE? |

The aroma is wheat, spices, bubble gum, and banana. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is sweet up front with flavours of wheat and light fruit, with a mildly tart finish. While it is closer to a hefeweizen than an American Wheat, it is not a beer I would try again. |

1763 | Railway City Cranberry Festive Lager / Railway City Merry and Bright Cranberry Lager | Canada | Fruit Beer | 3.1
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 473ml can
5.50% ABV
Canned On: November 1, 2018
LCBO # 255 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Main / Bronte)
November 21, 2018
$3.69
The beer pours a slightly hazed light copper colour with a light tan coloured head that quickly recedes to a ring. The aroma is tangy cranberries, grass, and floral hop scents. The mouthfeel is weak to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is really just a grainy lager with a hint of tangy cranberries thrown in. The beer was canned 3 weeks ago, but the fruity freshness isn’t there. |

1764 | Belhaven Twisted Thistle IPA (European version) | United Kingdom | IPA | 3.1
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6 330ml bottle
5.60% ABV
Best Before: November 20, 2019
LCBO # 255 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Main / Bronte)
November
$2.66
Part of the 2018 Belhaven Craft Christmas 6-Pack. This clearly a British style IPA with the emphasis on ‘clearly’ as there isn’t a speck of haze in the glass. The beer pours a translucent metallic gold colour with a thin white film for a head. Swirling the beer for a few seconds generates a 1” foamy off-white head. The aroma is grainy malt, some musty hops and some floral hops, and yeast. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is grainy malt up front, some acidic tones, and a bitter citrusy hop finish. Hard to detect the citrus in the aroma but it is definitely there on the palate. |

1765 | Sawdust City / Bar Hop Brewco The Blood of Chthulu | Canada | Imperial Stout | 3.1
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 473ml can
9.5% Abv
Canned On: October 4, 2018
LCBO #457 (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Yonge / Eglinton)
November 24, 2018
$5.25
The beer pours a solid black colour with a generous foamy light brown cap which sticks around. The aroma is soy sauce (not good when it’s the first smell in an Imperial Stout), roasted malt, dark chocolate, and coffee. The ingredients list raspberries and cherries but I’m not feeling them as part of the aroma. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is bitter chocolate, roasted malt, with coffee and soy notes in the background. Being a supporter of Bar Hop, this beer is a huge disappointment and hopefully the draught version is better. |

1766 | Moosehead Small Batch Heritage Series: London Stout | Canada | Foreign / Extra Stout | 3.1
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 473ml can
5.5% ABV
Canned On: November 15, 2018
LCBO #457 (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Yonge / Eglinton)
February 2, 2019
$3.10
The beer pours a coca-cola colour with a generous rocky tan coloured head that lasts several minutes. The aroma is roasted malt, coffee, and notes of vanilla. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation….disappointing for a beer labelling itself as a ‘London Stout’. The flavour is roasted malt and watered down coffee. Not a great beer but not a bad beer. Certainly shows that a ‘large’ Canadian brewer can brew decent beers |

1767 | Insel-Brauerei Insel Kreide | Germany | Witbier | 3.1

The aroma is more barley than wheat, with herbal hops, some spices, and a definite yeasty note. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, crisp, with average carbonation. The flavour is wheat, some tart fruity notes, and a definite yeasty flavour. Witbiers aren’t my favourite style, and this champagne take on the style didn’t help that opinion any. |

The aroma is light citrus, biscuit grains, light yeast, and weak spice notes. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. 1769 | Sawdust City Griffin Maple Butter Tart Ale | Canada | Amber Ale | 3.1
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 473ml can
5.0% ABV
LCBO # 255 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Main / Bronte)
March 2, 2019
$3.25
The beer pours a translucent amber colour with a thin white ring for a head. The aroma is sweet caramel, cereal malt, weak maple notes, some yeast, and come herbal hops. The mouthfeel is weak to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is not as sweet as the aroma would suggest. Notes of caramel and maple, and hints of hops in the bitter finish. A little one dimensional but with calling it a ‘butter tart ale’, I think that is what they were going for. |

The aroma is roasted malt, coffee, and notes of vanilla. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is roasted malt, coffee, and not much else. Quite one dimensional for a stout, and weak tasting. |

1772 | Shawn and Ed Lagershed Original | Canada | Bohemian / Czech Pilsener | 3.1
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 473ml aluminum bottle
5.2% ABV
Canned On: March 18, 2019
LCBO # 255 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Main / Bronte)
April 4, 2019
$3.25
The beer pours a translucent medium gold colour with plenty of effervescence and a foamy white head which doesn’t last very long. The aroma is grainy malt, maybe a hint of biscuits in there, along with herbal hop notes. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation (despite the excess effervescence). The flavour is very malty with some subtle sweetness at the start giving way to a twinge of bitter hops in the finish. Nothing offensive here, but not worth reaching for again. |

1773 | MacKinnon Brothers Crosscut Canadian Ale | Canada | Blonde Ale | 3.1
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 473ml can
5.2% ABV
Canned On: February 5, 2019
LCBO #457 (Toronto, Ontario, Canada - Yonge / Eglinton)
April 15, 2019
$3.05
The beer pours a hazed medium gold colour with a very thin white film for a ring. Effervescence is active. The aroma is grainy malt, some light fruit notes, yeast, and earthy hops. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, crisp, with average carbonation. The flavour has more in common with a Nortgh American blonde ale than it does with either an English Pale Ale or an American pale Ale. Quite grainy with a slightly sweet start leading to a bitter finish. Aside from the grains and the hops, not a lot of complexity here. |

The head lasts several minutes. The aroma is toasted malt, light caramel, yeast, and musty hops. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbnation. 1775 | Sawdust City Skinny Dippin' Stout | Canada | Oatmeal Stout | 3.1
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 473ml can
5.5% ABV
Canned On: June 5, 2019
LCBO Outlet #457 (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Yonge / Eglinton)
July 20, 2019
$3.35
The beer pours a solid black colour with absolutely no head - none. Quite disappointing for a Sawdust City beer. The aroma is light coffee notes, roasted malt, and weak herbal hops. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is similar to the aroma with notes or roasted malt, coffee, and weak hops. For a beer that is only 6 weeks old, from a brewer I enjoy, this beer is a huge disappointment! |
