1926 | La Trappe Quadrupel / Koningshoeven Quadrupel | Netherlands | Abbey Quadrupel | 4.7
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 10 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 10 | Overall: 9 16 oz draught
10.0% ABV
I tried this on draught on April 11, 2008 at "Smokeless Joe's" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a dark reddish brown with a thick, long lasting white head. The aroma was thick with yeast and some sweet caramel malt. The mouthfeel was thick, creamy, and mildly carbonated. The flavour was brown sugar sweet, with some yeasty hints. Not quite as sickly sweet as a Samichlaus or Hardy's. |

The aroma was sweet malt, with some yeasty tones, as well as chocolate and cherry hints. The mouthfeel was medium bodied, mildly carbonated, and slightly creamy. The flavour was caramel malt, some other fruit flavours like cherries and plum, and a little hoppish bitterness to round it out. I loved this beer. |

1930 | De Molen Rasputin | Netherlands | Imperial Stout | 2.2
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 330ml bottle
10.7% ABV (as marked on the bottle)
Bar Hop (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
December 6, 2013
$13.95
Note: This beer is described as an Imperial Stout. While the bar I was at has been in contact with the brewer and it's rep in Canada due to the possibility of quality issues, the brewer insists that what's in the bottle is the proper beer. The beer poured a solid reddish-broen colour with a thin tan coloured head. The aroma was yeast, dark fruits, and grains. The mouthfeel was medium bodied, with above average carbonation. The flavour was tart fruit and yeast, with some graininess. Despite what the brewer says, I believe that the beer I had was a sour Belgian Strong Ale and not an Imperial Stout as the bottle/label/brewer suggests. I have graded it as what it was supposed to be. |

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 500ml can
5.0% ABV
Royal Bank Plaza LCBO Outlet
August 28, 2012
The beer pours a translucent pale yellow colour with a weak white head. The aroma is grassy malt, weak hops, and metallic. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour is grainy with a hint of hops, quite drinkable, but not outstanding. Certainly not as chemically as other swills. |

1932 | La Trappe Isid’or / Koningshoeven Isid'or | Netherlands | Belgian Ale | 3.4
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 7 750ml bottle
7.5% ABV
Royal Bank Plaza LCBO Outlet
September 20, 2012
Beer pours a translucent reddish-brown colour. Not as dark as a dubbel or a quad, but close. Head is long lasting, tan coloured, and rocky. Aroma is sweet malt, yeast, mild fruit, and spices. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavour is Belgian yeast, wood, with dry, sweet, fruit hints. Not bad, but I was expecting more from a Trappist ale. |

1933 | Heineken Lager | Netherlands | Pale Lager | 2.3
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 August 1, 1993
Gift
330ml bottle
5.0% ABV
$0.00
Another from the list of 'alright' tasting beers. Heineken is a beer that I expected more from. With it's place among the classic beers of the world secure, let's get down to the review. The colour is a straw gold colour that is representative of so many North American style lagers. The aroma is slightly hoppy and not too overpowering. The taste is pretty mild with nothing to really distinguish it from anything else. Not a bad beer, but it isn't a favourite of mine either. |

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 August 12, 2007
LCBO Outlet #255 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Main / Bronte)
500ml can
5.00% ABV
Canned On: Unknown
$2.25
It poured a translucent pale gold colour into the glass with a generous white head that quickly disappeared leaving some rocky lacing on top. The aroma was slightly malty. The mouthfeel was thin-bodied, crisp, with mild carbonation. Definitely not a watery feel. The taste was that of malt, hops, and a little spiciness I can't place. Overall, a decent beer |

1935 | Christoffel Blond | Netherlands | Bohemian / Czech Pilsener | 3.4
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 August 12, 2007
LCBO Outlet #255 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Main / Bronte)
330ml bottle
6.00% ABV
Bottled On: Unknown
$2.70
I tried this beer on August 12, 2007 after purchasing from my local LCBO outlet. It poured a hazy gold colour with a small head into the glass. The bottle described the beer as 'double-hopped' but this was not detected in the aroma to any extent. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with mild carbonation. The flavour was slightly hoppy and mild.
Both the appearance and taste of this beer was more reminiscent of wheat beers than a Czech Style Pilsener. |
