The beer pours a hazed copper colour with a very thin white head. The aroma is Juniper, caramel, raisins, and yeast. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is sweet, smoky with caramel and molasses sweetness, and a smoked wood aftertaste. This is definitely a winter warmer and the alcohol is slightly noticeable in the aftertaste |

1784 | XO Beer | France | Biere de Garde | 3.8
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 10 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 7 August 17, 2007
Smokeless Joe’s (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – 125 John Street)
330ml bottle
8.00% ABV
Bottled On: Unknown
$14.25
The beer poured into a tulip glass a beautiful reddish brown colour with almost no head. Like Biegaman, my bottle was also marked as 8%. The aroma was cognac, malt, alcohol and burnt butterscotch. The mouthfeel was very very smooth with a medium body and some mild carbonation. The taste was very heavy on the cognac, and a little hint of fruit. I did feel the alcohol burn, and for a beer with an 8% abv, that's not good in my book. A little pricey at $14.25/bottle as well when I can visit some other places and get an Abbey Quadrupel for less. |
