The beer pours a solid black colour with a thin brown ring for a head. The aroma was roasted malt, vanilla, and coffee. Mouthfeel was medium bodied, but thin for a porter, and had medium carbonation. Flavour was quite dry and licoricy for a porter. Bitter coffee, alcohol and roasted malt are the dominant notes. The aftertaste suggests that this was a barrel aged beer.

The mouthfeel was medium to full bodied, quite creamy and medium carbonation. The flavour is in your face grapefruit up front and a peppery aftertaste. Quite a good beer.

I was expecting more a spiced Belgian Strong ale.

Not a whole lot of complexity. The wild oats series has been hit and miss with me.
