The aroma was roasted malt, milk chocolate, light coffee, and vanilla. The mouthfeel was medium to full bodied, slightly creamy, with average carbonation. The flavour is a nice balance between the sweet milk chocolate notes and the bitter roasted malt with a mildly bitter hop finish to boot. Very good beer. |

1054 | Junction Craft Caribru Mango IPA | Canada | IPA | 3.5
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 473ml can
5.60% ABV
LCBO #457 (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Yonge / Eglinton)
March 18, 2019
$2.955
The beer pours a hazed golden orange colpour with a thin lace covering for a head. The aroma is orange, mango, and grass. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is similar to the aroma with a piney, bitter aftertaste. It’s a nice IPA, not as tropical as the trend has been, but not as citrusy as the 2000s decade. |

1055 | Black Bellows Hops! Belgo-New England IPA | Canada | Belgian Ale | 3.3
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 473ml can
6.3% ABV
Canned On: January 10, 2019
LCBO #457 (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Yonge / Eglinton)
March 17, 2019
$3.75
A blend of American and Belgian brewing styles for this year’s Saint Me day beer. It pours a hazed medium gold colour with a generous foamy off-white head which lasts throughout. The aroma is very yeasty, definitely a Belgian influence here, followed by notes of tropical citrus juices, and a hint of biscuit malts. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with average carbonation. First thing I taste is pine resing, which gives way to some grain notes, followed by some tropical fruit juice flavours, almost similar to ‘Five Alive’. Still not a fan of these juice bombs…..I want beer, not breakfast juice! |

1056 | Ommegang Game of Thrones Royal Reserve 003: Mother Of Dragons | United States | Ale | 3.4
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 6 750ml bottle
6.60% ABV
Bottled On: October 31, 2018
Best Before: October 31, 2020
LCBO #457 (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Yonge / Eglinton)
March 9, 2019
$13.80
The beer pours a slightly translucent coca-cola colour when held to a strong white light, with a huge frothy light tan coloured head which lasts a while. The aroma is quite complex as both the tart cherries, and burnt wood are prominent. There are hints of roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee as well, but it is the tart cherries and wood that dominate. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, slightly creamy, and with above average carbonation. The flavour is both chocolatey and tart at the same time. There are also notes of roast and coffee in the mix. Looks good, smells good, feels good, but does not taste good. Nor am I a fan of the dark frosted bottle as I can’t see how much yeast was left on the bottom. |

1058 | Sawdust City Griffin Maple Butter Tart Ale | Canada | Amber Ale | 3.1
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 473ml can
5.0% ABV
LCBO # 255 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Main / Bronte)
March 2, 2019
$3.25
The beer pours a translucent amber colour with a thin white ring for a head. The aroma is sweet caramel, cereal malt, weak maple notes, some yeast, and come herbal hops. The mouthfeel is weak to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is not as sweet as the aroma would suggest. Notes of caramel and maple, and hints of hops in the bitter finish. A little one dimensional but with calling it a ‘butter tart ale’, I think that is what they were going for. |

The aroma is tropical fruit, stale grass, herbal hops and…..cheese? Not sure what to make of the aroma but that cheese smell takes away from everything. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is grass, tropical fruit, and herbal hops. In fact, I enjoy the flavour. It wouldn’t be a “go to” beer, but I would never turn one down. |

1065 | Napanee Extremist Belgian IPA | Canada | Belgian Ale | 4.0

Very lively in the chalice. The aroma is tropical citrus fruits, light spices, grains, and yeast. More Belgian than IPA in my opinion. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with slightly above average carbonation. The flavour is more IPA than Belgian with the tropical fruit notes front and centre before giving way to grass and a hint of yeast. A very good beer. |

The aroma is tropical fruit juice, very akin to a Five Alive drink, with hints of biscuit grains, and light yeast. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is very similar to my morning Five Alive with an alcohol bite. Not my glass of beer. I keep hoping I like one of these session juicuy IPAs but so far….nada! |

1068 | Pint Pursuits The Answer | Canada | Helles / Dortmunder | 2.6
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 473ml can
5.0% ABV
Canned On: August 15, 2018
LCBO #010 (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Summerhill)
February 12, 2019
$2.95
I was a bit disappointed. After seeing the name, I half expected Allen Iverson to pop out of the can. He didn’t. The beer poured a light straw colour, with plenty of effervescence feeding a quickly disappearing white cap. The aroma was bready balt, some spice, and weak herbal hops. The mouthfeel was weak to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour was bready malt, weak spice, and a slightly bitter hop finish. There were times I thought that the beer tasted something like a Labatt Blue from the 80s. |

1069 | Oskar Blues Dale's Pale Ale | United States | American Pale Ale | 3.8

The aroma is pine, grapefruity hops, biscuit grains and light spice notes. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is reminiscent of a solid American west coast IPA pre-2012 with notes of pine, caramel, and grapefruit finished with a bitter hop bite. Quite good when given the abundance of tropical fruit IPAs these days. |

The aroma is more barley than wheat, with herbal hops, some spices, and a definite yeasty note. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, crisp, with average carbonation. The flavour is wheat, some tart fruity notes, and a definite yeasty flavour. Witbiers aren’t my favourite style, and this champagne take on the style didn’t help that opinion any. |

The aroma is roasted malt, coffee, and vanilla with nary a whiff of coconut to be found. The mouthfeel is creamy, full bodied, and well carbonated. The flavour is sweeter than the aroma would indicate with notes of chocolate, molasses, and coconut balancing out the roasted malt and coffee flavours. Not a bad beer in the end. |

1072 | Kingsville Brewing Woodrunner | Canada | Stout | 3.3

The aroma is roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, and a hint of vanilla. It says barrel aged on the can, but I can’t detect any in the aroma. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation, a bit disappointed it isn’t creamy and more full bodied. The barrel aging can be tasted in the flavour as there is definitely some wood notes on the tongue, very dry wood notes. Not as much coffee in the flavour as the aroma. A decent effort by a small brewer. |

The aroma is toasted malt, light caramel, weak citrus, and bread. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour leans heavily towards citrus peel, particularly grapefruit and orange, which isn’t my cup of tea. There are hints of herbal hops and caramel as the beer warms up a little, but the citrus peel lingers. |

The aroma is roasted malt, coffee, and notes of vanilla. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation….disappointing for a beer labelling itself as a ‘London Stout’.
