976 Lokal Kraft Düsseldorf Altbier Canada Altbier 3.6

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

473ml can
4.5% ABV
Best Before: June 20, 2020
LCBO Outlet #010 (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Summerhill)
August 28, 2019
$3.15
The beer pours a translucent dark copper colour with a creamy tan coloured head which lasts a few minutes. Aroma is light roasted malt, caramel, and noble hops. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, slightly creamy, with ample carbonation. Flavour is very true to the style with notes of caramel, roasted nuts, and a mild bitter finish. If this is how well they do German beers, I look forward to their future efforts.

977 Radical Road Cucumber Mint Kolsch Canada Kölsch 3.0

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

473ml can
5.0% ABV
Canned On: June 28, 2019
LCBO Outlet #483 (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Royal Bank Plaza)
August 24, 2019
$3.10
The beer pours a translucent metallic gold colour with a generous snow white head that doesn’t last long, but leaves some good lacing in it’s wake. The aroma is definitely cucumber. There are cereal notes, some weak earthy hops, and a hint of citrus. No sign of mint in the aroma in my can. The mouthfeel is weak to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is cereal malts, cucumber, vegetables, and a weak bitter hop finish. Again, no sign of mint.

978 Collective Arts Hazy State Canada IPA 3.4

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

473ml can
4.1% ABV
Canned On: June 4, 2019
LCBO Outlet #457 (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Yonge / Eglinton)
August 14, 2019
$3.45
The beer pours a solid golden orange colour with floaties for a head, no translucence or haze at all. The aroma is all the breakfast fruit juices rolled into one. A very faint hint of cereal malt. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is similar to the aroma but the grainy malt starts to come through, along with some hoppy bitterness. Not bad, but not worth trying again.

979 Flying Monkeys Wonderstar Botanical Lager Canada Light / Lite Lager 2.8

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

473ml can
4.5% ABV
Canned On: July 2, 2019
LCBO Outlet #457 (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Yonge / Eglinton)
August 9, 2019
$3.35
A gift from Martin Sanders. The beer pours a clear metallic gold colour with a huge generous white foamy head. There is little to no effervescence. The aroma is dominated by grainy malt, weak yeast notes, and some earthy hops. The mouthfeel is weak to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is strange. The grainy malt notes are there, but also notes of lemon furniture polish. This is not a good flavour for beer (or any beverage for that matter). The grassy aftertaste lasts several minutes.

980 Parallel 49 Trash Panda Hazy IPA Canada IPA 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7

473ml can
5.5% ABV
Canned On: May 10, 2019
LCBO Outlet #649 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Louis Saint Laurent / Bronte)
July 31, 2019
$3.15
The beer pours a hazed medium gold colour with a thin white film for a head, but that film laces all down the glass. The aroma is dominated by tropical fruit (grapefruit and pineapple) with hints of grains, yeast, and spices. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is quite fruity. There are hints of grains and a light bitter finish, but the flavour is all about the fruity notes.

473ml can
5.0% ABV
LCBO Outlet #457 (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Yonge / Eglinton)
August 9, 2019
$3.10
The beer pours a murky bright golden yellow colour with a 1” foamy white cap which sticks around a few moments. The aroma is yeast, wheat, and some spicy hops. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is wheat, spice, light banana, and a mildly bitter finish. The spiciness lingers but can’t quite place them.

Nice lacing, but almost no effervescence. There are a lot of fruit notes in the aroma, some tropical, some citrusy, along with hints of grass and yeast. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is well balanced between the sweet malt notes of the grain, and the slight bitterness of the tropical hops. A highly drinkable pale ale.

984 Exchange Brewery No. 7.2 New England IPA Canada IPA 3.6

Lacing is good. The aroma is tropical fruit, grass, pine, and caramel. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is very piney, with notes of tropical fruit and grains. A good beer to me as it isn’t overly fruity or overly bitter.

The aroma was grainy malt, weak earthy hops, hibiscus, and light citrus notes. The mouthfeel was weak to medium bodied with below average carbonation. The flavour was quite fruit forward, with the grainy malt in the background. There was very little bitterness in the finish. An interesting beverage.

The aroma is funky yeast, light orange, cereal grains, and light spicy hops. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is weak orange, yeast, sour grains, and a hint of spice. Unlike any saison, or for that matter, any beer I’ve had before. Very unique.

The frothy white cap lasts a while and laces beautifully. Aroma is wheat, citrus, light spices, and yeast. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is bitter citrus peel, some fruit notes, yeast, and weak spices. One gets the “IPA” more than the “White” in this one.

988 Sawdust City Skinny Dippin' Stout Canada Oatmeal Stout 3.1

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

473ml can
5.5% ABV
Canned On: June 5, 2019
LCBO Outlet #457 (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Yonge / Eglinton)
July 20, 2019
$3.35
The beer pours a solid black colour with absolutely no head - none. Quite disappointing for a Sawdust City beer. The aroma is light coffee notes, roasted malt, and weak herbal hops. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is similar to the aroma with notes or roasted malt, coffee, and weak hops. For a beer that is only 6 weeks old, from a brewer I enjoy, this beer is a huge disappointment!

The aroma is wheat, smoked wood, herbs, and yeast. Interesting combination. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, with average carbonation. The flavour is sweet wheat and bubble gum to start, giving way to charred wood, and spices in the finish. Again, a very interesting beer.

473ml can
4.0% ABV
Canned On: June 12, 2019
LCBO Outlet #255 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Main / Bronte)
July 20, 2019
$3.35
The beer pours a highly carbonated straw yellow colour, slightly cloudy, with a huge white head that quickly recedes to a bubbly film on top. At the end of the pour, it was like a yeast cake entered the glass. Aromas of grass, tropical fruit, and herbal hops. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. Clearly the effervescence in the pour is just for show. The flavour is pine and citrus, leading to a very bitter hoppy finish.

The aroma is definitely Belgian eith notes of yeast, funky grains, vinegar, and light apple notes. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with above average carbonation. The pr4imary flavour is the oak, followed by light fruit notes, yeast, and grains. You can’t smell or taste the alcohol , but you can definitely feel it go down your throat. A good beer.

The aroma is tart fruit, vinegar, burnt wood, and yeast. There is an almost tripel-like feel to the aroma. The mouthfeel is dry, medium bodied, and highly carbonated. The flavour is grains, yeast, tart fruit notes, and the oak comes through in the flavour on the back of the tongue. An enjoyable beer, but certainly not a sessionable beer.

A lot of similarities with rye beer in the spicy notes.

The aroma is roasted malt, coffee, weak grapefruit, and grassy notes. The mouthfeel is full bodied, with average carbonation. The flavour is coffee, chocolate milk, and roasted malt. This is a decent porter or stout, but aside from a faint grapefruit aroma, and maybe some citrus peel flavour (both which can be found in overhopped stouts and porters) there is nothing to suggest this is a black IPA. NOTHING!

Sweet up front, bitter in the end. A nice little IPA that takes me back to the first decade of the 21st century.
