701 | Paniza Brewing Premium Pilsner | Canada | Bohemian / Czech Pilsener | 2.7
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 473ml can
5.0% ABV
LCBO Outlet #631 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Main / Thompson)
May 7, 2021
$3.00
The beer pours a pale straw gold colour with plenty of effervescence and a huge bubbly head that is short lived. The aroma is grainy malt, noble hops, and yeast. Very clean aroma for a non-macro bargain lager. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is very malty, the hoppish finish is barely detectable in the flavour. There is absolutely no indication on the can when it was packaged, and it has sat in the back of the beer fridge for 5 months so this could be an old beer, but nothing spectacular enough to make me want to try it again. |

The aroma is biscuit malt, sweet caramel, some light citrus, and earthy hops. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is nicely balanced with light sweet caramel and bitter hops. Enjoyable but nothing special |

709 | Henderson Brewing Union Pearson Ale / Henderson Brewing Pearson Express IPA | Canada | IPA | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 473ml can
6.5% ABV
Canned On: November 23, 2020
LCBO Outlet #649 (Milton, Ontario, Canada - Sobey's Plaza)
April 7, 2021
$3.45
The beer pours a deep gold colour, slightly hazed, with a rocky off-white head that lives for a few minutes. The aroma is caramel malt, light citrus, and yeast. The mouthfeel is full bodied with average carbonation. It falls flat on flavour however with the alcohol coming through and dominating the caramel and hop notes. As an aside, the Henderson Brewery actually backs onto the tracks on which the Union Pearson Express runs. |

The aroma is one dimensional with hints of roasted malt and coffee. The mouthfeel was medium to full bodied, undercarbonated, and both chalky and creamy. The flavour was as one-dimensional and the aroma with only bitter coffee and roasted malt coming through. For a simple porter, this was boring, yet very bitter. For a pecan Pie porter, this missed the mark completely as there was no pecan pie notes in either the aroma or flavour. |

Nice to see a non-hazy beer. The aroma is grainy malt, herbal hops, and plenty of yeasty notes. There is definitely a bready character here. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with average carbonation, most certainly a crisp mouthfeel. The flavour is grainy malt, offset by some hop bitterness. While I find Beau’s to be all over the place with their beers, they set out to create a low alcohol product that tastes like beer, and they’ve succeeded. It’s still not my cup of tea so to speak. |
