262 | Smithwick's Irish Ale | Ireland | Irish Ale | 2.7
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 6 June 1, 1990
Woolwich Arms, The (Guelph, Ontario, Canada – 176 Woolwich Street)
500ml bottle
5.00%
$4.70
After going almost 20 years without sampling this, I recently tried it on tap at a local Toronto eatery and found it to be an alright brew. The colour was a translucent brownish-red colour, with an off-white head that didn't stay long. The aroma was slightly malty and sweet but weak. The flavour was slightly malty at the start but became better as I got closer to the bottom. Like other ales I have tried it was thick on the tongue with little carbonation. This is one of those brews that when provided a list on tap...if I've previously tried them all.....ocassionally I'll pick this one. |

This beer has a darker colour than I normally like (I prefer golden nectars) and a weak aroma. It went down very smooth however. It felt thick in the mouth, very little carbonation. The flavour was alright, very malty.
March 3, 2008
LCBO Outlet #255 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Main / Bronte)
440ml can
4.30% ABV
Now that I am several months into my beer hobby, I have decided to re-rate some beers that I didn't care for the first time around. The beer poured a beautiful translucent red colour with a thick creamy off-white head. The aroma is still very weak with no discernable odours. The mouthfeel was full-bodied and creamy. The flavour was roasted malt, a little nutty, and a little subtle hoppiness on the back of the tongue. This beer goes down very smoothly (as do a lot of British beers). |

I realize the rest of the world thinks this is some brown elixer, but I cannot say that I share their passion for this brew. |

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 5 March 1, 1990
Boo Sports Bar, The (Guelph, Ontario, Canada – University of Guelph, University Centre)
341ml bottle
5.50% ABV
$2.00
This was the first ice beer that I tried and I was pleasantly surprised. It had a floral aroma that I was unable to identify but was pleasant to the nostrils. The colour was beer like, a clear golden colour. It was very crisp to the taste with no clear identifiable flavours. A beer that goes down too damn easy. |

266 | Coors | United States | Pale Lager | 1.7
Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 4 November 18, 1988
Gift
355ml bottle
5.0% ABV
$0.00
Version: Coors Banquet Beer brewed by Molson Breweries of Canada
An unimpressive entry from one of the big three. The beer is a very light yellow colour in the glass, with a very thin white head that quickly dissipates. The aroma dissipates as the beer is poured from the bottle into the glass. The taste reminds me of burnt sugar and this taste lingers for quite a while after the beer is gone. The mouthfeel is too watery as well. This is the only beer I can think of where the 'Lite' version is superior in taste. Not a beer I would recommend to my enemies let alone my friends |

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 September 29, 1988
Brewer’s Retail (Guelph, Ontario, Canada – Municipal Street)
355ml bottle
5.0% ABV
$1.10
This used to be one of my favourite beers. This beer pours a nice translucent golden colour with a bubbly white head that dissipates slowly. The aroma is flavourful with a floral tinge to it . The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour has grassy and malty tones, and more importantly, has some bite to it which is something I like in a beer. This is a beer I would definitely recommend to friends |

The Silver bullet pours a pale yellow colour with little or no head. What aroma there is, is very weak in nature making it difficult to classify. The taste is beer-like witrh a weak aftertaste. The mouthfeel is watery with some hints of carbonation. Not a great tasting beer, but, better than Budweiser and Coors. |

269 | Fosters Lager | Australia | Pale Lager | 3.4
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 September 22, 1987
Gift
355ml bottle
5.0% ABV
$0.00
Brewed in Canada by the Carling O'Keefe Brewing Company
As Paul Hogan used to call it, 'The Golden Throat Charmer' and 'Australian for Beeya'.

First off, this tastes best very cold. This pours a beautiful golden colour with an offwhite head that sticks around. It has a nice hoppy aroma that I find distinctive. It dances on the tongue with some mild carbonation that isn't overpowering that winds into a crisp lager-y feel. The taste is crisp and clean with some malty tones and tastes great (and filling). It does have one hell of an aftertaste that takes some getting used to. This was my beer of choice in the late 80s and early 90s, and I still visit it every now and then (like this afternoon).

When I originally tried this it was brewed in Canada by Carling O'Keefe Brewing Company under license from Elder's Brewery in Australia. Elders eventually gave a huge sum of money to Molson Brewing Company to buy Carling O'Keefe (with some money from the Miller Brewing Company). When I did my Ph.D in Tennessee, I saw Foster's in the supermarket..............it was brewed by Molson in Canada (and distributed in Reston, Virginia). |

270 | Carlsberg Light (Canada) | Canada | Light / Lite Lager | 3.1

Much better than any other Light beer I've tried. The aroma here is similar to the main brand, so much so that I am unable to tell the difference. Again, like the main brand, it is golden in colour with a mouthfeel that is not offensive to the tongue. However, the flavour has slightly less bite than the parent brew. |

271 | Miller High Life | United States | Pale Lager | 1.7
Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 2 | Overall: 3 Brewed in Canada by the Molson Breweries Limited
September 15, 1987
Gift
341ml bottle
5.0% ABV
$0.00
There is not a lot to say about this beer that is good, not for me anyway. The beer is a nice light gold colour that is reminiscent of American lagers. There is no discernable smell to speak of nor is there any discernable taste. The mouthfeel is very watery with hints of carbonation. Overall this is not a beer that I would try again, nor is it a beer that I would recommend to others.. It gets a 3 overall simply because they had the Bottom Bottle Opener at one time. Unfortunately the case we got contained bottles that had obviously been used many times before because the glass around the opener had been well chipped/worn away meaning that we needed the bottle opener anyway. |

272 | Molson Golden | Canada | Pale Lager | 2.2
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 April 1, 1987
Gift
341ml bottle
5.0% ABV
$0.00
I tried this beer during the 1980s when they launched a large Canadian campaign to get beer drinkers drinking Golden again. The campaign did nothing more than make fun of the beer's name (Moslen Godlen, Molden Golson, etc). This was also the brand featured on all The Molson's commercials. Sadly, this beer is no longer part of Molson Canada's lineup (as per their website). Anyway, the last time I tried this, the beer was golden in colour with almost no head. The aroma was weak with a grassy tinge to it. It was very crisp and clear on the tongue with weak carbonation. The taste was also weak, not watery, but not very beer-y either. It eventually went on to be associated with 'Old Man's beer' along with Labatt 50. I would give a better rating, but the beer was just not that memorable. Not bad, but not worth a second taste. |

I remember the commercials as a child with the famed Carlsberg Clydesdales. Haven't seen those in years, makes me wonder if they still have those. This beverage has an alright aroma, typical beer aroma. The colour is a nice golden colour. It has a smooth mouthfeel. The taste is bland, similar to other beers of the style. One thing of note is that this beer tastes better cold than at room temperature. |

274 | Molson Export Ale | Canada | Blonde Ale | 2.2
Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 January 15, 1987 ,br> Brass Taps (Guelph, Ontario, Canada – University of Guelph, University Centre)
300ml draught
5.0%
$1.50
Not a very good beer in my opinion. It pours a deep gold colour with a bubbly head. The colour is still translucent but certainly darker than Moslon Canadian and Fosters. The head barely lasts 30 seconds. The aroma isn't anything to write home about, in fact, it is very skunky at best. It is very harsh on the tongue with a lot of carbonation. The taste is a bit harsh too, too much bitterness mixed in with a burnt malty taste. It didn't smell all that great, didn't taste all that great, and was not an instant favourite. At least it looked like beer. But not one I would recommend to friends or beer lovers anywhere.

June 28, 2007
Hard Rock Café (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – 1 Blue Jays Way)
341ml bottle
4.9% ABV
$6.65
This beer poured a translucent golden brown with a thin white head that quickly dissipated to lacing. The aroma was sickly grassy malt, with a touch of hops. The mouthfeel was thin bodied, almost watery, and highly carbonated. The flavour was very grainy, with some weak hoppish tones. |

The aroma is bready malt, some definite tropical fruit and citrus notes, and a hint of yeast. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour was grains, citrus, and tropical fruit notes. There was not a lot of bitterness in the finish |
