1776 Orkney Skull Splitter United Kingdom Scottish Ale 3.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 6

330ml bottle
8.5% ABV
King/Spadina LCBO Outlet (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
December 6, 2012
The beer pours a translucent ruby red with a short-lived generous head. Aroma is tart fruit, malt, some roast, and caramel. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Not digging the flavour as there is a cherry cough syrup like taste to go along with caramel and roast.

The aroma is light spice, musty hops, grass, and weak citrus notes. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is grains, light spice, and a good bitter hoppy finish. Nicely done.

1778 Orval Belgium Belgian Ale 4.1

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

July 23, 2007
Smokeless Joe’s (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – 125 John Street)
330ml bottle
6.90% ABV
Bottled On: November 16, 2006
$13.00
The beer poured a cloudy brownish gold with a head that lasted through the entire trappist glass. The carbonation was very evident in the glass. The aroma was spicy and fruity, not as yeasty as an Abbey Quadrupel. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied with medium carbonation. The taste was not to my liking. The upfront taste was alright, but there was a lime-like bitterness on the back of the tongue. A very good beer, but not a great beer for me.

Re-Rated on May 28, 2008 with no changes.

1779 Oskar Blues Dale's Pale Ale United States American Pale Ale 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

473ml can
6.5% ABV
Canned On: November 19, 2018
LCBO #010 (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Summerhill)
February 12, 2019
$3.35
The beer pours a translucent light copper colour with a generous light tan coloured head that lasts a few minutes. The aroma is pine, grapefruity hops, biscuit grains and light spice notes. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is reminiscent of a solid American west coast IPA pre-2012 with notes of pine, caramel, and grapefruit finished with a bitter hop bite. Quite good when given the abundance of tropical fruit IPAs these days.

1780 Oskar Blues Ten FIDY United States Imperial Stout 4.5

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 10 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9

355ml can
10.5% ABV (as marked on can)
Canned On: October 23, 2017
Main/Bronte LCBO Outlet (Milton, Ontario, Canada)
April 17, 2018
$4.75
The beer pours a solid black colour and a vigourous pour created a bubbly 1” head that receded to a thin film within a couple of minutes. The aroma is roasted malt, smoked malt, soy sauce, and dark chocolate. The mouthfeel is full bodied, well carbonated, and very creamy. The flavour is roasted malt, dark chocolate, and peppery spice. Maybe even a hint of coffee. The beer came with quite a reputation and it lives up to it. An excellent beer.

The aroma is grainy malt, yeast, and herbal hops. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is very grainy with an overly bitter hop finish, and aftertaste. Was hoping for better!

473ml can
4.8% ABV
Milton LCBO Outlet #1 (Milton, Ontario, Canada)
August 12, 2017
The beer pours a clear golden orange colour with a small foamy white head which quickly dissipates to a thin film. The aroma is grainy malt, weak hops, and no fruit or yeast notes whatsoever. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is similar to the aroma profile with a very malt dominated flavour and weak hints of hops. Not something I would try again.

473ml can
5.6% ABV
Milton LCBO Outlet #1 (Milton, Ontario, Canada)
August 12, 2017
The beer pours a translucent amber colour with a generous foamy tan coloured head that quickly recedes to a rocky foamy cap. The aroma is caramel malt, weak noble hop tones, and weak yeast. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, slightly creamy, with average carbonation. The flavour is sweet notes of caramel balanced out by bitter hop notes. Not a bad beer at all.

September 1, 1993
Location Unknown (Memphis, Tennessee, USA)
355ml bottle
5.0% ABV
$0.00
It's unfortunate that 2 is the lowest choice available, otherwise I would have given straight 1's to Milwaukee's Best, and four 1's and a 2 to this swill. This brew was the laughingstock at my graduate school department. I avoided it as long as I could but alas, I did eventually try it. It was rank right out of the bottle, and thankfully it had a more yellowish tinge than Milwaukee's Best..........and that's a very minor thankfully.

Re-Review
Brewed in Canada by Stroh Canada / Sleeman Brewing and Malting Company
473ml can
4.9% ABV (as written on can)
Canned On: September 8, 2021
LCBO Outlet #649 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Sobey’s Plaza)
April 7, 2022
$2.15
A more experienced beer reviewer’s review! The beer pours a translucent straw gold colour with a huge fluffy white head that lingers as rocky islands for several minutes. The aroma is stale grains, herbal hops, and vomit. This beer does not smell good. The mouthfeel is thin and carbonation is average. The taste is just as bad as the aroma. Thirty minutes after finishing this…..it is still ravaging my tongue! My score has been adjusted slightly! (1.0 -> 1.3)
473ml can
5.0% ABV
LCBO Outlet #631 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Main / Thompson)
May 7, 2021
$3.00
The beer pours a pale straw gold colour with plenty of effervescence and a huge bubbly head that is short lived. The aroma is grainy malt, noble hops, and yeast. Very clean aroma for a non-macro bargain lager. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is very malty, the hoppish finish is barely detectable in the flavour. There is absolutely no indication on the can when it was packaged, and it has sat in the back of the beer fridge for 5 months so this could be an old beer, but nothing spectacular enough to make me want to try it again.

The aroma is roasted malt, cocoa, and coffee. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is quite similar to the aroma wioth notes of roasted malt, slightly sweet chocolate, and coffee. The aroma is grains, light pine, citrus, and earthy hops. The mouthfeel is watery with average carbonation. The flavour has all the elements of a decent IPA sich as light caramael malts, a grapefruity tang, and some bitterness in the aftertaste, but it has a noticeably watered down nature to it.

The aroma has citrusy hop notes, grassy notes, and some salty notes. The mouthfeel is very thin with below average carbonation. The flavour is weak grains with hints of wet cardboard and a weak bitter finish. There is also a doughy note that comes through in both the aroma and flavour in a strong way. There are beers on this site that taste worse than this, so I will give it credit from that standpoint, but this is not a good beer unless rated to style

The aroma was dark fruit, some caramel, candy sugar, and alcohol. The mouthfeel was very champagne-like, yet not highly carbonated. Due to the mouthfeel, the flavour reminded me of a cheap red wine.
