June 29, 2007
LCBO Outlet #255 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Main / Bronte)
500ml bottle
5.00% ABV
Bottled On: Unknown
$2.30
It poured a beautiful golden translucent colour. The aroma was a nice grainy aroma that screamed 'drink me!' It is smooth and crisp on the tongue with small hints of carbonation. The favour is crisp and clean with hints of grain. I will definitely try this again.

729 Döllnitzer Ritterguts Gose Germany Gose 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

500ml bottle
4.7% ABV (as written on bottle)
Main/Bronte LCBO Outlet (Milton, Ontario, Canada)
September 16, 2017
$3.65
(as Original Ritterguts Gose)
The beer pours a slightly hazed metallic gold colour with a white head that had the retention of a soft-drink. There is plenty of effervescence visible in the glass. The aroma is tart fruit, spices, and yeast. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with above average carbonation. The flavour is very tart, with spices and salt thrown in. A better than average gose.

730 Dos Equis XX Amber Mexico Vienna / Amber Lager 2.2

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4

355ml bottle
4.60% ABV
I tried this beer on March 7, 2008 at "Smokeless Joe's" in Toronto. The beer poured a solid reddish-brown colour with a thin white head. The aroma was primarily grassy with a little malt. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied, but highly carbonated. The flavour was grassy, a little malt, and a little sourness. Definitely better than a Corona or a Tecate.

731 Dos Equis XX Special Lager Mexico Pale Lager 1.8

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3

355ml bottle
4.5% ABV
I tried this beer on June 4, 2009 at "Smokeless Joe's" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a transparent gold colour with a thin white head that disappeared fast. The aroma was grainy malt, some hops, and a hint of dishwashing detergent. The mouthfeel was weak bodied, quite watery, and well carbonated. The taste was an ill conceived concoction of grainy malt, grass, and acid.

June 30, 1990
O’Toole’s (Milton, Ontario, Canada – 55 Ontario Street North)
592ml draught
5.0% ABV
$2.50
The beer poured a nice golden hue with an off-white head that lingered for a while. The aroma was nothing spectacular, slightly malty but long lasting. Like other ales I have tried it was slightly thick on the tongue with weak carbonation. The flavour was mild, not strong, not bitter as I had expected

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

550ml draught
5.6% ABV (as marked on menu)
I tried this beer on draught on April 13, 2012 at "C'est What" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a translucent reddish gold with a thin tan head that laced well. Aroma was caramel malt, and floral hops...not a lot of citrus. Mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The head is white, rocky, about 1/8 inch thick, and lasts a long time. The aroma is funky yeast in all its’ glory, with lighter hints of tart berries, grass, and earthy hops. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is tart fruit, so tart it takes the tongue a few seconds to recover. Once the tongue recovers one discovers a white wine flavour with the yeast prevalent. Interesting beer!

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4

473ml can
5.60% ABV
Best Before: June 2, 2021
LCBO Outlet #649 (Milton, Ontario, Canada - Sobey's Plaza)
March 12, 2021
$3.00
The beer pours a coca-cola colour with a huge frothy brown head which lasts a while. The aroma is one dimensional with hints of roasted malt and coffee. The mouthfeel was medium to full bodied, undercarbonated, and both chalky and creamy. The flavour was as one-dimensional and the aroma with only bitter coffee and roasted malt coming through. For a simple porter, this was boring, yet very bitter. For a pecan Pie porter, this missed the mark completely as there was no pecan pie notes in either the aroma or flavour.

A decade ago this was often listed in Top 10 lists for Canada’s best IPAs, and I loved it, but I can’t believe what I had today is the same IPA served in 2010.
