About:
I was introduced to better beer in 1989 when I went out with three friends and a round of Watneys was bought. Several more rounds were bought and I soon was a craft brew fan. I began home brewing later that year and while I never took the hobby as far as some I did share the dream of becoming a brewery. Prior to my craft brew enlightment and for several years after I pursued and tried many cheap lagers and malt liquors. I now brew occasionally but drink craft brew on a very regular basis. My current favorites are Hop Devil, Southern Tier IPA, CascaZilla, and Inferno Pod Ale brewed at Custom Brewcrafters.

Back in the late eighties/early 90's I could get this for $3.50 a twelve. It was a great deal and actually had more hop flavor and malt character than the more expensive american lagers. My favorite from this line is no longer being made, Utica Club Pale Ale. This beer had alot of hop character mixed in with a cereal taste from rice and corn. As a college student who had acquired a taste for hops this was a nice cheap alternative.

I used to drink this all the time when I was in college. It is very strong and smoother than the next best malt liquor Colt 45. This is not a beer that you drink because it is craft brewed. However, it is alot of fun and when I drank it, I could get a bottle for the change on the washing machine and have a great night. This beer is meant to be drank in a car or outside in a paper bag. A pounder was good to get you going if you were going out.
