About:
The best beer I ever drank was brewed at, and I drank it at: Williamsburg, VA. I was @ 40 and had never liked beer before that one. It was rich, thich and smooth with just a hint of honey and no bitterness. Since then I have been drinking honey or wheat ales but none have compared with that beer. I have dreamed of opening a brewery because the process of brewing intrigues me and so that I could work to recreate that delicious Williamsburg beer.
I like some of the Flying Dog brews: In Heat Wheat and Old Scratch Amber. But I prefer to drink local beers. ("You gotta dance with the one who brung ya!")
My son turned me onto Sweetwater Brewery near us in Atlanta. http://www.sweetwaterbrew.com I have been to the brewery many times; old and new locations. It's fun to see them grow. My favorite beer of theirs SO FAR is Sweet Georgia Brown. A deep, copper colored, mild brown ale, accentuated by a slight nuttiness from its malt character.
When Sweetwater is not available, I drink Newcastle Brown Ale. I wasn't surprised to find that it is a Scottish beer as I am of Scottish decent and am an Anglophile.
Now a dear friend of mine, Sam Leneaus, has opened Rome Street Tavern Grill in Carrollton, GA. He will be microbrewing at least 6 beers in the near future. I can't wait! According to his descriptions of beers to come, my favorite might just be 'Carroll Oak Brown': A dark rich color and slightly toasted flavor compliment the sweet malt characteristic of this finely balanced ale. I'll let you know how it goes.
