I didn't know this was still being brewed! I remember it from many years ago, so when I saw some in an off-licence I decided to try it again. Maybe time has coulored my memory, but I remember it as a fuller-bodied, more flavousome, malty, slightly sweet beer. I'm sorry to say that I didn't take to the current version at all: strong alcohol flavour, thin mothfeel - No, I'll not try this again.

Light appearance, slight "apple" nose - very refreshing. The mouthfeel and body make it seem a stronger drink than its 3.8% - I'd say it has the body of a 4.5% at least. Very reliable.

Lovely coppery colour - but with a disappearing head! I can't make my mind up about the nose - it sometimes seems lemony almost, but then that's probably the fault of MY nose rather than the beer. Slightly fizzy in mouthfeel, with more malt than hops.

Rich golden colour, Sweet malt nose, and maybe bananas? Good head in both draught and bottle and a sweet, malty and fruity flavour - with a longish aftertaste

This is far more of a classic English strong brown ale than a strong bitter. If you take that into account it makes more sense, as the colour, flavour and mouthfeel are those of a good brown ale - nay better in the case of the flavour. Rapidly becoming one of my top ten beers - but I'll have to experiment further before I make a decision.
