The Bistro, opened by its current owners, Vic and Cynthia Kralj, in January 1994. The space went through a major face change in June of the same year including a beer garden on B Street. Formerly known as the Vintage Cellar Wine Shop which was started by The Celebrator beer News owner and editor Tom Daldorf. The Bistro soon established itself as a major Craft Beer Bar and Music Venue in the East Bay. We proudly serve the community of Hayward with locally roasted coffee, soups, sandwiches, appetizers, artisan cheese, Salumi, fine wine & handcrafted ales and lagers. Live music has been a constant here 7 days a week for 23 years with no cover charge. Our biggest claim to fame was the band Train which cut its teeth here from 1994 to 1997 before moving on to the big time. We made our big splash in the Craft beer scene by having the first Double IPA Festival in the world. We asked some of our friends in the Brewery business to make a Double IPA for the fest, and so they did we had 12 of them that first year way back in 2000. Our good friends Vinnie and Natalie Cilurzo up at Russian River Brewing made a Beer they called Pliny the Elder for us which is now one of the highest rated beers in the world. Our DIPA fest now has over 96 beers on tap on Main street and is the original kickoff to SFBEERWEEK. We also have a IPA Festival, Wet Hop Fest and a Barrel Aged Beer Fest. So come on down and relax and enjoy the Bistro spirit. Cheers!
