Good beer has been brewed and enjoyed for nearly a thousand years in Pøerov, as document-ed in the numerous sources of the history of this old city. The brewery opened in the 1870s and by the end of that century it had caught up to and surpassed the majority of Moravian brewery in representation and quality of its beer. It thus became one of the leading Moravian breweries and has not lost ground since then. In 1872, sev-eral hundred central Moravian entrepreneurs got together and founded the “First Moravian Shareholder’s Brewery with Malt House in Pøerov”. The speed that the construction of the new brewery would be noteworthy even by today’s standards. The cornerstone was laid on April 25, 1872, and in less than 13 months, on May 24, 1873, sales were underway from the new brewery. Pøerov beer soon gained a very good name with its customers, and by the end of the 19th century its quality was praised in many brewers’ displays and exhibitions including one in Vienna.
