City Barrel was born from the vision of three friends—James Stutsman, Grant Waner, and Joe Giammanco. James and Grant brought a wealth of experience from the beer industry: James, formerly with KC Bier Co and Deschutes Brewery, and Grant, who represented Tallgrass Brewing Co. Joe, a seasoned entrepreneur with ventures including a doggie daycare, joined the duo with his business savvy. Their shared passion for hoppy IPAs and complex sours sparked the idea to fill a gap in the Kansas City brewing scene. They saw a need for long-aged sours, innovative IPAs, and wild fermentation beers, all while creating a unique culinary experience.
