Tucked into an old engineering works in a quiet little backwater close to the town’s centre, Battledown is producing a small range of fine hand-crafted (and increasingly award-winning) ales for sale both into the trade and directly to the public. This is the current range of Battledown Beers:- Saxon 3.8% abv A golden pale ale, with a refreshing aroma and sharp but smooth taste, leaving a dry hoppy aftertaste which lingers on the palette. Sunbeam – 4.0%abv California Common (aka. American ‘Steam Beer’) A gold and tasty ale brewed in the American Gold-Rush way, using lager yeast and Northern Brewer hops. Tipster 4.2% abv A deep golden beer, the malts evident but giving way to the triple hop addition to give a spicy and slightly citrus finish. Turncoat 4.5% abv A dark red coloured ale, a relatively light porter, velvety smooth with a rich flavour and a slightly sweet malt aftertaste. Brigand 4.7% abv A rich amber ale, fine malty aroma and taste and deep satisfying full bodied fruit and malt texture leaving a well rounded mellow aftertaste. Cheltenham S.P.A. 5.2% Special Pale Ale. - A well balanced and crisp pale ale. Triple hopped and brewed in the original India Pale Ale tradition. Four Kings – Strong Ale 7.2% Nothing subtle here! This is a blockbuster of a beer, lots of everything and then some more. Heady aroma, full taste – full on!
