A single barrel of Superstition Meadery mead BA barleywine has stood out enough to be bottled as our next batch of BEELINE. This time we aged Highwaymen, our 100% AZ grown & malted barleywine (Sinagua Malt), in a single Blueberry Hex barrel from our friends at Superstition Meadery for about 16 months. This slowly developed into a very jammy barleywine experience, with deep notes of dark fruits due to the long term aging—which are only complimentary to the blueberry mead flavors from the beverage that previously aged in this barrel. The whiskey components from the barrels original use are faint, yet warming. The aroma is initially blueberry muffin batter, like those little muffins you get at the road trip snack stop. Toffee and caramel galore. A drinkable mouthfeel that makes it doable to drink this 12oz bottle all by yourself.

Rated June 2020. 12oz bottle pours with a clear deep copper colored body that has a thin mahogany hue and supports no head at all. The aroma offers up molasses, sweet dates and tootsie roll caramel candy. The taste delivers similar notes with smooth sweet molasses, a large handful of caramel tootsie rolls and a modest grape like sweet fruity esters sensation. Solid sipper with a pleasing balance of flavors.
