Long time wish list beer: Stunned that this "hoppy barleywine" is like a big, fat, thick juicy double IPA. There are barleywine qualities as well, but when it comes down to it, this beer is all about the citrusy hops. Bittersweet, very citric with a soft feel and a warming finish. LOVED it!

Sampled on 8/6/2011. This Barley Wine pours a medium reddish amber color from a 750ml bottle. Medium to large sized white foamy head with nice lacing and long lasting retention. The aroma is caramel, fruity, sweet, bready, raisins and citrus. A medium to full bodied Barley Wine. The malts are caramel, fruity and sweet. The hops are citrusy and floral. Nice carbonation. Somewhere between a Barley Wine, Double IPA and a American Strong Ale. It has aspects of all three. A lot more hoppiness in the taste than the aroma. Nicely balanced. Hides the alcohol well. But there is a touch of alcohol hotness/bite at the finish. Nice beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter, yet there is some sweetness.

Big bottle, tasty beer. Not a strong barleywine but one definitely worth seeking out. A gift from a friend a couple of weeks ago (I have a second bottle aging). A beautiful reddish-brown colour that when held to the light is somewhat transparent. Aroma is hoppy with notes of pine, and citrus, as well as some sweet caramel malt. Alcohol comes through in the flavour, but it doesn't dominate the sweetness of the beer.
