100% Brettanomyces dark beer fermented in stainless and aged in used red wine barrels. Brettanomyces is a unique yeast strain that produces flavors that would be considered offensive if they were not intentional. Flavors of sour cherry, tobacco, oak and classic Brett barnyard funk balanced by Dark Munich malt chewiness. Enjoy immediately or age at cellar temperature for a couple of years.

Pours translucent mahogany with a thick though not long-lasting tan head. Aroma provides tart dark fruit, funk, an earthy hint. Flavor gives tart and sour dark fruit with some berry on the side, satisfying funk, earthy and malty hints. Texture offers decent body and lively fizz. Dark, spooky, but not evil.

Ah, a real sour ale, unlike the usual candy type ones you find all over the place. This is a dark one too, with unusually dark foam for a sour. Funky sour and tartness. Very fruity with hints of oak. Slick mouthfeel, almost buttery, and a puckering finish.

Had this at the brewpub about 6 months ago, this time from a bottle, 2015 Vintage. Pours a reddish brown color with a small tan head that settles into a ring on the top of the glass. Aromas of red wine, sour cherries, wet blanket, barnyard funk, leather and oak. Tastes as it smells. There is a lot going one here, especially as it warms. Sour cherries (mouth puckering), leather, red wine, barnyard funk and oak. Full mouthfeel. A very unique and interesting beer whose flavors developed as it warmed. Highly recommended.

A big sour grape nose, similar to Five. A little lactic funk but actually pretty pleasant smelling overall. Flavor and mouthfeel where a bit thin for me but you can sure pick up the oak and red wine. Sours don't seem to be Surly's strong point but they are moving in the right direction.

Spendy bugger this one is. I honor of Easter I give you the Pentagram. Pours a dark cloudy cherry/copper color that makes an attempt to block out all the light. head was off white and very small, went away very fast. Aroma is very, very sour, reminds me of a Flemish sour like Rodenbach. You can detect hints of red wine, yeast, and cherries in the cornucopia of other scents I don't quite know how to describe. Lacing is minimal and returns itself to the liquid fast. Taste is something out of this world. I detect sweet and sour wine, wild cherries, and oak galore. Finishes off slightly sticky and fizzy. Overall one of the best beers i have had to date. I Surly wish (see what I did there) they would make this annually and in more quantities. Rivals even the best sours in the world. Very Well Done, this brewery has yet to disappoint.
