The rich and malty character of our Outta Kilter Scotch Style Red Ale is masterfully complimented by barrel aging, as the "angel’s share" slowly evaporates resulting in a wonderful concentrating of flavors. The full flavor experience goes one step further with the vanillin undertones from the oak wood of the barrel, adding a savory, satisfying depth of flavor, ultimately creating a wonderful sensory experience!

Pours out a cloudy bronze color with a lace of head that's hangs on. The aroma is of butterscotch and malt. The mouthfeel is heavy and thick. The taste is like drinking a liquid maple bar.

Vanilla and bourbon compete a little with the toffee and peat, but they end up playing nice together. The base beer, which I really liked, is still evident, though the barrel makes it a different animal. Nicely done.

Lightly murky reddish brown pour, tight tan head, nice lacing, a few floaties. Moderate Bourbon aroma at first whiff, sweet caramel malts, vanilla, light earthy hops. Moderate to strong Bourbon flavor, especially as it warms, caramel and toffee, some vanilla and oak, earthy hops so as not to be too freaking sweet and Whiskey'd. Nice big beer, very warming.

Moderate to mild barrel influence throughout this Kilter. A bit thinner & smoother than the original version along with a toned down sweetness. Very earthy with some doughnut and toast followed by a splash of vanilla, caramel and bourbon. Nice looking pour into a small glass. Ruby brown color, frothy tan head and ample lacing. I was expecting more from the aging than what was produced.

Bottle pour into a snifter slightly below cellar temparture. This brew is freaking red...a really crazy looking beer. Aromas of candy sugar and whiskey. The major drawback of this brew is the mouthfeel as the base beer is rather thin, but it is pleasantly carbonated. The taste is very nice, if not muted just a tad. Vanilla and oak dominate and the sweetness of the base beer grapple with the whiskey barrel flavors. I would grab again, although like most Hoppin' Frog offerings it is a tad pricey.
