This is a well balanced, well hopped bitter, light and mellow – a great lunchtime drink. It was originally brewed during WW2 when ingredients were rationed, it is also known as Sussex Pale or Longman.

This was another great Harvey's offering enjoyed at the Harvey's brewery in Lewes, GB. This was my least favorite of the Harvey's offerings and yet it was still a classic British Bitter. This beer wasn't as full of flavor as the other offerings tried, however, it was an easy drinking beer - low in alcohol content and great for a session with friends.

One look around the bar counter at the Wenlock Arms and you could pick out the blokes ordering Harveys: working men all, on in years, with a gleam in their eye for an end-of-the-workweek pint of their favorite, familiar Hadlows. The younger, more adventurous were delving deeper into the amazing variety of fine offerings at this well-worn London Free House. But, plenty of time for adventure; start me out with a Hadlow Bitter. Yes, indeed - a very familiar and comfortable brew. Deep gold, with a bubbly - not creamy - white head; no lacing whatsoever. Very light nose, somewhat "cooked" or cardboard aroma. Smooth mouthfeel, firm light malt and lightly bitter hops, with a slightly sour flavor. Easy drinking, unassuming, basic, mellow and slightly boring - but maybe that's the appeal.
