Hot dang I sure liked this but after 2 bottles it's just to sweet to drink 3. Without a doubt the first beer that I've liked with Maple syrup in it.The molasses that are in this brew must be very expensive to buy because the flavor was out of this world.

Bottle pour is ruby hued with a quick burst of carbonation. Aromas of dark fruits - raisins/dates with a strong malt tone, very similar to (surprise!) Old Curmudgeon. This bottle is over a year old, and sadly the maple has faded quite a bit. Smooth tastes of prunes, raisins, slight vanilla/oak. This is much better on draft, as there is practically no barrel presence in the bottled version. It tastes like a cellared version of old curmudgeon.

Had as 'Better Half' .. . Pours a deep gold amber .. white foam, low strength lacing .. . lots of sweet honey wine, maple syrup and golden booze .. . wow, so out of whack, very boozy .. this needs at least 3-5 years to be great and i think it has the potential .. . . PMS jokes aren't funny, period.

Bottled as Curmudgeons Better Half. Great Label. Beer 3k! Looks deep chestnut, similar to the base brew. Great head for a bareled brew. Wonderful aroma of diverse malts, maple, bourbon, (vanilla and oak). Feel is smooth as expected (I'm a big fan of KBS and Backwoods Bastard which seem to use the same bourbon barrels). The flavor is just fantastic. The old ale, bourbon, and maple syrup, which I thought may be oversweet, blend together perfectly. Soooo stinkin delicious. The only "flaw" of this beer, and I'm really nitpicking here, is the 11.9% shows a little. Not too much, but a little less bozze and this is a 4.7 or higher. Glad I picked this beer for the "milestone".

Growler from a local source, good score as this blew my mind. Old Curmudgeon is a wonderful beer as is, but the wood, vanilla and whiskey influences from the barrel were great and the maple syrup is noticeable and melds well with the other flavors.
