Originally brewed by 20 Tank Brewery in San Francisco (1989-2000), Nyack Barleywine is an American Strong Ale. Dark amber in color, it’s white frothy head invites you into the glass. Deep, roasty, caramel mouthfeel with strong citrus esters on your palate. This is a Big beer with Big flavors of malt, hops and heat. We used close to 2000 pounds of different malts to make up the grist, and a total of 25 pounds of hops (Magnum, Centennial & Chinook). Enjoy some Bay Area history, and drink a Nyack Barleywine. We suggest it be served in half-pint snifters or goblets.

Sampled on tap 6/24/2011 at Beer Revolution. This barleywine pours a deep orange gold color from the tap. Small sized white foamy head with minimal lacing and some retention. A medium to full bodied barleywine. The malts are fruity, caramel and sweet, with a lot of brown sugar, candi sugar, maples syrup, molasses flavors. The hops are piney, citrusy and grapefruity. Milder carbonation, not that this beer needs much. There is a lot of sweetness balanced by a lot of hoppiness at the finish. Hide the alcohol fairly well, there is a touch at the finish. Very smooth tasting throughout. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
