Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9
Pours dark, somewhat translucent mahogany with a thick, fluffy, and rather persistent buff head. Tempting aroma has caramel, cherry, grape, and subtle malt and banana notes that should get a Barleywine fan Pavloving. Flavor does not quite match the promise of the aroma, but pleases with caramel and cherry tones with a malty underpinning and a strong but not fierce alcohol bite. Texture is firm and smooth with a subtle tingle and a caramel and fruit finish. Worth $19 a bottle? I reckon so.
