Rated in Feb. 2011. Poured up on tap at Mark’s amazing Mr. Beery’s CCB Total Tap Takeover. It has a deep dark mahogany body with a high degree of opacity supporting a lasting dark tan head. The modest aroma is soft with sugary malts and molasses then moving into more abrupt notes of oak, spicy oak and malt sweetened citrus hops. The taste is slick sludgy sweetness with mild spicy oak notes bubbling away around the syrupy goodness. Amid the sludginess one can get lots and lots of hoppy flavor and hoppy resin struggling to break free and take over the flavor. It ends with lingering thick sweet maltiness, molasses and a wide load of citrus hops to tropical fruity notes.
