A collaboration brew between BrewDog and Mikkeller. This different vintage was brewed in 2009 with a 1/3rd of the beer being aged in a speyside whisky cask before being blended back with the base beer in 2010. The result is a 13.8% barley wine. NOTE: This is a different recipe to the previous batch and is clearly labeled as Devine Rebel 2010. If the bottle does not say 2010, the rating should go under the first batch.

Reading the other reviews, I have decided my love of alcohol content in beer is deriavative from most. I so dig this brew. I opened the bottle, took a smell, smoked meat, just like as if I was in the smokehouse. Peat, malt, light carmel and white grape. Wicked big brew, meant to be sipped I gather. lots of candy characteristics running around. totally excited about this. now lets play the game try to identify the hop... yup, no idea, but its really obvious and cool: wood, beachwood, apple wood, well toasted, grapes, riesling, mild gasoline, so wicked! so bitter by the time it hits the back of the mouth. light chipotle, WOW, something new just showed up in the aroma, it is intensly sweet, like peach, and apricot! Grilled apricot that is. I want this with a smoked pork sandwich with fennel apple slaw. That would rock. Starting to get some aged rum characteristic. I cannot tell if this brew is bitter or sweet, its back and forth. Some triple zant dutch licorice shows up when warming. I could drink this every day and I would pay the price if i could get it in bc. A touch of a nut, im trying to put my finger on it... almond i think. maybe macadamia. texture is of maple syrup covered shortbread cookies (never ate such a thing). Yup.

Ruby brown with a limited cap. Aroma is mild with a woody harshness, white grape, alcohol, and some oak. Aroma is not unpleasant but leaves much to be desired. Flavor is strangely sweet and also very mild. Brew has alcohol heat, and way to much astringent. Elements off coffee and oak are detectable but hiding in the mild sharpness of the brew. The Whisky starts to show up when beer is very warm what thickens up the flavor rescuing the beer to a point. Apple has also shown when warm. Disappointing brew, not to say it was horrible I just was expecting so much more. Marks seem real low but when i compare it to others of the same style it makes sense.

Bottled. Deep rubyish (slightly amber colour). Small off-white head. Aroma is mild alcohol, some liquorice, some slight hops as well as quite strong sweet maltyness. Flavour is liquorice, some sweet malts, mild alcohol and some slight salted liquorice in the finish. A very pleasantly balanced brew.

This one had the occasional flashes of potential, however too much wood and alcohol covered the other flavors, and aromas. Not that its bad, its just overwhelming.
