Part of our Wild Oats Series, Osmium is a strong Scottish-style ale. Expect a malty and full-bodied beer, with subtle caramelized sweetness – it’s sure to conduct (more than) a wee bit of warmth into your winter! History & Style: Originating in the 1800s, Scottish ales were classified on a “shilling” scale based on their alcohol strength, typically ranging from 60 shilling (“light”) to 90 (“wee heavy”). The 90 shilling beer would be served up in smaller, or wee, quantities due to its higher alcohol content. Today the style has found popularity amongst North American and European audiences in need of winter warming. As for the name, Osmium is the densest element on the periodic table and has incredible thermal conductivity. Our Osmium Scottish-style strong ale has incredible warming capabilities too – it’s the (wee) heavy metal of beer! Tasting Notes: Osmium pours mahogany with a beige foam. The aroma is malt dominated with treacle, biscuit and toasty notes. The flavour is rich and chewy sweet. The finish brings just enough hop bitterness into the mix to provide balance. Food Pairings: Haggis, gruyère, toffee cake. INGREDIENTS Local spring water, organic barley malts, organic roasted barley, organic hops, brewer’s yeast. MALTS Pale ale, munich, acidulated (all organic) HOPS Organic fuggles YEAST Edinburgh Scottish ale yeast

Part of The Beau's Mix Winter 4-pack for 2017-18. Pours a clean amber colour with a beige head that lasts longer than most Wee Heavy, with minimal lacing. Nutty nose with some nice darker fruits, but not too sweet like most of the style. Flavours are well-blended with the dark fruits, caramel, nuttiness and roasted malts lingering. Goes down very smoothly as all not too rich. Would have this again.
