This barrel aged smoked sour ale is a blend of many barrels from the Bear Republic cellar, including Smoked Red Rocket and Black Do, which was then spiked with Bear Republic's own 'spank,' a wild open fermentation beer that is the source of Bear Republic’s sour power. If you like sour beers, this one is the first of its kind.

A treat I had while in Oregon in the winter of 2010. I was convinced they mispelled the name, but apparently not. A reddish-brown sour beer that is pretty good. Tart fruit notes mixed with wooden notes and peppery spices dominate the nose, while the flavour is all about the sour fruit. Good, not great.

I had this one at the Portland Holiday Ale Fest a few weeks ago. Dark brown with a good tan head. I have to say that this one did not go well with me. The smokiness was really weird to me, with the sour. It was an interesting concept that didn't hit. Medium body with a spicy sourness that wasn't bad except for the smoke.
