Alesmith Decadence Anniversary Ale was originally brewed in 2005 to celebrate our first decade in business. Our brewers had such a great time concocting Alesmith Decadence that they decided to make it an annual event, and brew a new style each year to commemorate our anniversary. Alesmith Decadence 2011 is a Maple Smoked Barley wine. Blending elements of two beer styles, smoke beer and barley-wine. Alesmith has created a unique, homebrew-inspired beer. Big and malty, with a huge Bamberg smoked-malt character, Alesmith Decadence 2011 has another very special ingredient: Vermont maple syrup. The smoky malt flavor is perfectly balanced by modest bittering hop additions. A rich, full-bodied beer designed to deliver a memorable drinking experience. Join our anniversary celebration with Alesmith Decadence. You’ll soon discover why Alesmith is known around the world as the place to find legendary craftsmanship.

Rated in March 2012. 750mL bottle pours rutty red amber with full tan head. The aroma offers up smooth smoky near bacon notes followed by mild prunes, raisins and brown sugar covered plums. The taste is equally smooth with prunes, brown sugar and raisins rolling into silky smoky rauch malts as well as some dry smoked bacon. Around the edges I get modest notes of booziness right into the finish and after taste. Floating above these notes are some floral hops and vague sort of spicy hops. Note sure how the smoke will age but this one is pretty smooth and blended right now.

2nd wish list cross off from Toronado SD. Maple smoked barlwywine. Just sounds awesome. It met expectations everywhere but the body, which was lacking just a little smoothness/depth/fullness. The flavor and aroma were spot on, with the smoke being up front and the maple very subtle.
