Until 1956, Walkerville was home to one of the oldest and largest brewing operations in Ontario. Its celebrated beers were delivered in wagons stocked with oak kegs and drawn by stately draft horses. In 1998 Karen Behune and her husband Michael Plunkett obtained the rights to reuse the name Walkerville Brewing Company- the company was reborn. In an old Hiram Walker distillery- only two blocks from the original brewery- the couple began brewing Walkerville Lager, the region's first and only high calibre microbrewery- right in the centre of historic Walkerville.
