‘Adelardus abbey beer’, is the youngest descendant of our beers. This dark brown beer was made for the open house days of the abbey. Adelardus was one of the most important abbots for the abbey of Trudo and the city Sint-Truiden. He built the tower and rebuilded the existing church into one of the most monumental churches of that time. The ingredients are: brewing liqour, malt, yeast, hop, candy and sweet gale. Sweet gale is a mixture of ten spices from the region, which gives the beer his typical flavour.

    Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9

Pours a hazy orange-copper, with a frothy one finger head that slowly settles to a thick cap, leaving behind a thick sheeting of lace. Smell; coriander and cloves really jump out at me on the first few sniffs, and then some bananas and a bit of pepper. Taste; the bananas come out a little more agressively in the flavor than they did in the aroma. Candied sugar with coriander and cloves are present, as well as some peppery spiciniess. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, adn very drinkable. I picked up this bottle in Bastogne, Belgium, and now I wish I had picked up more than just this one bottle. Based on the pic this is the same beer that i had, but the abv was 9%.

Dark brown with a fluffy light brown head. Nice aroma of dark chocolate, banan, cherries and smoke. Fruity flavour of black cherries, banana with a bitter note of dark chocolate. Long chocolately aftertaste with notes of cherries, red wine and pepper.

Dark ruby red, beige mediumsized head. Spiced aroma with sweet malty hints. Very spicy flavour with hints of raisins and licorace. Sweetish aftertaste. Quite complex, but still not a clear mindblower.
