A CLASSIC AMBER ALE. BALANCED MALT AND HOP CHARACTER. Full bodied and deep amber in color, 1890 Founder's Ale showcases its robust malt complexity with notes of caramel, toffee and roasted walnuts. American cascade hops are used to balance this beer with a bright, piney finish. Pairing: The roasted notes in this beer play well with grilled, smoked, or braised meats. A great dessert beer that will go well with apple pie, cobbler and other fall classics.

Pours clear sepia with a fairly thick and frothy pale buff head. Aroma is not strong, but offers up a little malt and hops. Flavor presents bold, woody hops accompanied by toasty malt and subtle caramel and fruit notes. Firm body has good fizz and body, leaving a fruity and woody finish. A good beer for what was a good year - for some, anyway.

This is a solid all-around beer for the style. Maltier than the typical amber.....reminds me sort of a Biere de Garde. I was getting some light chocolate notes to go with the caramel, but description says toffee and roasted walnut, which corresponds to the flavors. Has a cloudy medium amber to brown appearance. Mildly hopped to balance out the sweetness. Only sampled a single, but this is one that I could go for a 6-pack.
