Brewed to celebrate Canada’s 150th Anniversary of Confederation. Using fistfuls of Goldings & Cascade hops, we’ve matured this brew in 150 oak barrels for 150 days, creating a mighty red ale bursting with flavours and aromas of toffee, vanilla, oak, citrus, smoky maple and orange oil. We’ve bottled conditioned this beer with our own unique strain of yeast, meaning that the bold flavours will continue to develop and become more complex over time. Here’s to the next 150.

Pours a clean copper-red colour with caramel highlights. Beige frothy head, good retention and some foamy lace. Not much aromas at first except light sweetness, but then some raisin and wood notes come out. The sweetness gets a little stronger with this. Oh boy, that is different for flavours. Darker malts with the rye spiciness at first, then the raisins come back with a bitter finish from the hops. All with the hints of wood which do not seem well-blended with all of the rest. Was this rushed for our 150th birthday ?? Great presentation in the whiskey tube and a nice try, but a little too all over the place. And the maple is lost.Then I read the back label which says "will continue to develop and become more complex with time"... and seems like a best before JAN 2022. Damn, wish I would of waited. Should be written to celebrate Canada's 155th birthday.

500ml bottle from LCBO. Comes in a very nicely packaged cardboard/tin sleeve. Pours an excessive amount of frothy beige head so be extra careful upon popping the cap! :) Ends up leaving a very thin layer. Has an amber coppery appearance. Moderate carbonation. Good retention. Aromas of caramel and toasty malts, a bit of maple in the finish. Flavours are on the sweet malty side, some maple, rye and hints of caramel. Mouthfeel is oily and slightly dry. Nice balance between sweetness and bitterness. Pretty good.
