Bourbon Stout (330ml, 7.4%ABV): New for 2013, this is a red stout brewed with I&G ale malt, rye crystal, roast barley and wheat and matured slowly over bourbon-infused oak. Deep ruby in colour, Bourbon Stout has aromas of roasted chestnuts, rich dried fruit and oaty biscuits. Whitbread Golding hops complement the sweet biscuity malt with a soft hop bitterness, giving way to a warming boozy fruit & nut chocolate kick laced with hints of mellow vanilla.

A black colored beer with hints of brown. A big frothy textured brown head rises above. There's good hang time on the head. A impressive lacing of thick film and ringlet are left. There's caramel and bourbon in the nose as it is in the tasting. In the tasting more sweetness from the malt. Thick, syrupy.

Pours out a extremely dark brown color with a red hue & massive tan foamy head. The aroma is of figs , raisins and butterscotch. The mouthfeel gets thicker as it warms up. The first taste there is a note so sweetness. That is blended well with heavy malt blended very well. I want to try this one again.

A little light and sweet for my tastes, but still pretty pleasant (even though it pours like a cola). Aroma of bourbon and caramel with light chocolate and roast. Fizzy on the tongue. Sweet slightly boozy finish.

Pours a small foamy beige coating of head and has a dark amber appearance, sorta rusty looking. Light grainy and malty aromas with a subtle hint of the bourbon and vanilla. Flavours of malts, oats, earthy and resin hops. Some notes of caramel malts as well. The bourbon is also somewhat noticeable. A little bit of the alcohol is apparent, not in an offensive way at all. Medium bodied. The slight bitterness and sweetness is blended well.

Purchased in their Connoisseur's Oak Collection 2013 and goes under "Bourbon Stout" (only US has the word "aged" in the title). Pours a clean dark copper colour with a creamy beige head, good retention and some silky full lacing. Not a fan of the hops, as they give out this rusty water smell. After breathing, it does seem to disappear. Typical buttery caramel aromas from I&G brews, but with the Bourbon notes, burnt nuts and wet roasted malts. The taste has mild bitterness that adds to this and makes it enjoyable. Not as sweet as their other beers. Not as heavy as a normal stout. Not as roasty (but hoppier) for a brew of this style. Still, goes down nicely with lots of alcohol and interesting overall.

Upfront, this may seem overly sweet. First few sips reminded me of a rum and coke. The bourbon is strong up front, but once you get about halfway in, the malt evens it out. A flatter feel like many Scottish or English stouts/porters. A lighter black or dark brown appearance with a red tint. Still a bit too sweet for me though, as I prefer a good straight stout, porter, or Scottish Ale.
